You're tired of the constant nagging and fighting. The tantrums are exhausting and embarrassing. You're constantly explaining yourself and you just don't understand why your child seems to ask the same question over and over. You've noticed your child is more irritable and becomes easily frustrated. You're not sure if your child's behavior is normal. Your child gives up when things become hard. You're constantly questioning yourself and you feel as though you're failing at this whole parent thing. You think something could be wrong. You want help. It's tough being a parent; WE get it! Together we will make things better.

EMDR, hypnotherapy, expressive arts (writing, drawing, etc.), somatic work, parts work and mindfulness are among the tools we may use.
Trauma has left you with guilt, shame, and a constantly triggered mind and body. It’s keeping you from peace, happiness, and your dreams… because you can’t experience pleasure when you’re numb, anxious, and empty. Important relationships have fallen away because you were on edge, withdrawing, or losing your temper. Plus, trust is impossible. Going through the motions, day after day, you feel disconnected from yourself, others, and life in general. You want to trust others, build meaningful relationships, and live with purpose, but you can’t help but wonder if you’ll EVER find the fulfillment and freedom you’re looking for.

Emily is trained in EMDR.
Our focus is working with individuals to heal from trauma. Our understanding of trauma is a wound either physical or psychological/emotional. This wound is created in early life when things happen that shouldn't have or when you didn't get what you needed. We also focus on relationships. Many things arise for us in relationship, so if you want to be your authentic self in relationship, we can help. If your goal is to become self aware and no longer unconsciously driven by the past, we are the practice for you. If your goal is to have peace and freedom within yourself, we will help support you on your journey.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
