ADHD Therapists in Carroll County, GA

While grief, perinatal mental health, and ADHD (specifically in women and girls) are my passions, I often assist clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions.
Grief isn’t just about death—it’s any loss that shakes your world. You might be grieving the loss of a relationship, a job, a dream, or even a version of yourself that no longer exists. Change, even when expected, can bring a deep sense of loss that’s hard to put into words.
You may be experiencing grief, depression, anxiety, or a major life transition. You may feel isolated, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Together, we’ll explore your feelings, make sense of your experience, and find ways to move forward at your own pace.

My career began in 1996 as a teacher, which evolved into social service work, and eventually led to becoming a high school guidance counselor. I have been a professional counselor since 2010. I enjoy helping people discover their strengths so they can overcome adversity and live optimally within the systems they must navigate.

I also work with people who have suffered trauma and experience symptoms of PTSD and ADHD.
In today's technological society, it can be challenging to remain centered and grounded. This can lead to anxiety, an inability to focus and concentrate, behavioral issues, lack of social skills, and other issues that are rooted in fear. I use a mindfulness based CBT technique to help clients find the source of their symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Challenges related to depression, anxiety, ADHD and high-functioning autism can be difficult to say the least, but there are ways to work with these experiences to make it easier for you.
My approach to counseling is eclectic but is firmly rooted in humanistic psychology - I value treating the whole person and drawing on a person’s innate strengths to help them heal. Also, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) into my work with clients. I like to get to know my clients on a very real level and be creative during our sessions.

I believe counseling is most effective when we work together towards solutions that make sense for you. My approach is eclectic. This is especially true when it comes to, not only, grief but also depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, ADHD, postpartum depression & anxiety, aging, and life transitions.
Have you lost a loved one? Are you a new mom struggling to find your identity again? Did a recent break-up leave you wondering if you will ever find joy again? Do people often make you feel as if something is wrong with you because you "aren't over it yet?” Whatever "it" is for you, please know that grief is not linear, and everyone does not grieve the same way. Grief is not just about death; grief is about loss; and loss is something we all experience at some point in our lives. If you feel misunderstood, unheard, or alone in your grief, please allow me to walk along side you on your grief journey.

Most of my child and teen clients look forward to therapy. I am highly successful in building a safe space and encouraging rewarding therapeutic experiences and positive change for children and teens. Does your child act unruly or have trouble managing small disappointments or changes without crying like the world has ended? Does your child or teen struggle with social skills, making poor choices, having low grades, or have low confidence? Have things turned to being unsafe in the home or school? Have you and your partner argued about how to handle your child? Turn that frown upside down!

Complex trauma changes the way our brains work over time. Fortunately, healing does the same thing. By working through how distressing events impacted us, we can create a life where we feel fully alive and can thrive.
While I have worked with a variety of different mental health concerns, I specialized in complex trauma and dissociation, neurodivergence and autism in adults, and LGBT issues. I am a nonbinary counselor; my pronouns are they/them.

I am passionate about the work that I do and always see the possibility of health and happiness in others. I have worked with domestic violence victims since 2001 and have expertise in this area. I work with children, adolescents and adults. I partnered with several organizations locally over the years such as the Juvenile Wellness Court, Rape Crisis Center (PARC), and the Child Advocacy Center. When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
