As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I am passionate about helping individuals thrive and I believe that everyone is capable of doing amazing things when given the right opportunities and environment to succeed. I have found joy in helping individuals become healthier versions of themselves. I have worked within specialized high acuity programs and within traditional outpatient settings, so no matter the setting or the level of care needed, I can be adaptable and dynamic enough to handle challenges with great empathy and understanding. I am an adult and adolescent therapist.

Challenges related to depression, anxiety, ADHD and high-functioning autism can be difficult to say the least, but there are ways to work with these experiences to make it easier for you. I have experience working with clients who have multiple mental health issues and enjoy working with clients who are looking to manage and/or overcome the difficulties of these experiences.

My name is Greg Byrge, a Christian counselor and owner of One Truth Counseling. I am thankful to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families where God’s presence becomes the great equalizer in reaching emotional, relational, and spiritual healing. Many individuals face unique challenges and circumstances that leave them carrying burdens, which create uncertainty and develop a sense of hopelessness, darkness, and frustration in their lives. Jesus said, "I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness."

Being a person in the world today is more challenging than it has ever been. Sometimes we carry habits and beliefs into adulthood that can make it even harder to live well. As we go through life we develop skills and interpret information in ways that help us to survive and cope with our environment. It is the brain's way of protecting us and preventing future pain. None of us are broken, but we may be applying skills and information in the present that are no longer helpful or relevant. I believe that developing awareness and understanding of these core beliefs and instincts is the first step toward healing and creating lasting

In our sessions we will explore the shadow self, fears, shame and guilt, how to be more genuinely yourself and to have a safe space to share your voice to help you be seen. I use recreational art in counseling to help us see things with a new perspective or work out emotions in a different way through colors, images, writing and storytelling. Everyone has their own unique experiences which I intend to use to empower the client as well as being an ally and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. I’m also here to support you through religious trauma and embracing your individual thoughts on spirituality or none at all!

Do you ever feel lost, alone, stressed and living in a life you never imagined for yourself? It's a normal human experience to get caught by the hard times in your life, but sometimes you get caught in a way causes you pain and suffering to the point you don't know where to start to make it better. You start to feel like everyday is the same, and you hang on to a hope that life will get better somehow, but it doesn't change. When life begins to feel this way, you feel defeated, hopeless, and drained of energy. Sometimes when the world around you feels like its punishing you, you're forced to examine yourself at a deeper level.

Children and teens go through many changes and often end up having a hard time navigating all of these changes. The changes everyone is faced with today; especially since COVID-19, are causing people to feel lost and uncertain as to how to move forward. Your teen may be struggling with disordered eating, making decisions, and their social network. Your adolescent may be experiencing an increase in stress and anxiety due to the uncertainty of the future. You may be questioning your beliefs; exploring alternative practices. You need additional guidance and exploration to feel better and self-actualize. We can help you with this.

Are you looking to discover greater vitality and joy in your life? I have found great satisfaction in my work helping people discover what blocks their natural "aliveness." I enjoy working with anyone who is looking to grow and make changes. I work hard to understand my clients, which helps them more deeply understand themselves and their relationship to the world around them. Then we work together to address thoughts and beliefs that interfere with being fully alive.

I see you. You can’t eat. You can’t sleep. Your heart feels like it is beating out of your chest. You feel alone. You put everyone else first and wonder when it will be your turn. You don’t even feel like the person in the mirror, so how can you hope to find acceptance from anyone else? Is your main concern your body size or shape? Your sexuality? The role others expect of you? You are overwhelmed by feelings you don’t even understand. You wonder if you will be stuck like this forever.

If life has lost its color or if your smile is less than half-hearted, come to my office, and we can explore where all the color and heart went to go hide. Whether escape has been the bottom of a bottle, your bed, or another person, I will support you as we face the emotions and fears that have been chasing you. If you hate the world, your abusers, or yourself, we can rewrite the rest of your story so that it doesn't have to be a tale of despair, but a tale of overcoming. If you feel like some part of you has died, let's bring it back to life.

I have worked extensively with adolescents and adults who suffer from anxiety, depression, anger management issues, self-esteem issues, behavioral issues, and substance abuse issues. I also work with people who have suffered trauma and experience symptoms of PTSD and ADHD. I have also found that a strong mind/body connection can be especially helpful for clients who have trouble with focus and concentration. Teaching clients to connect and trust in their own inner wisdom (sometimes called our "gut instinct") can help them have more confidence in their own abilities and the choices they make.

When we're hurting, confused, anxious, alone, or afraid, when we're doubtful of our own worth or uncertain of who we are, we ache for deep understanding and acceptance. The unconditional companionship of another person creates a space for a healing awareness. I believe this is the most precious gift one person can give another. I primarily work from a person-centered and psychodynamic perspective, incorporating other resources, including spirituality, according to your unique needs and desiring.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Carroll County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
