I like to view psychotherapy and the therapeutic relationship as having a personal trainer for your emotional well being and personal life.
There are many reasons someone may seek out a therapist, regardless of those reasons my goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where we can build a trusting therapeutic relationship that allows for positive change.

Today, I bring that insight to my work as a therapist, helping individuals and couples find their own paths to growth and fulfillment.
I help couples who feel stuck—repeating the same arguments, feeling misunderstood, or growing distant. I help you make sense of the deeper emotions driving disconnection, so you can feel safer and more supported in your relationship. Using aspects of EFT and the Gottman Method, we also get practical improving how you listen, disagree and rebuild trust.

I work with a broad range of clients helping them with relationship issues, career counseling, mood disorders, women's issues, trauma, and life transitions, among many others.
Let's face it: life is messy. We are all broken people living in a broken world and doing the best that we can. And sometimes our best just doesn't seem to be good enough. We can find ourselves disillusioned and heartbroken and yet we don't know how we wound up here. We long for more out of this life and yet we don't know how to get there. Whether you are grieving a loss, struggling to make a decision, or simply find yourself stuck in a rut, counseling can help you understand not just the origin of your problems but also assist you in developing practical coping skills and solutions.

Are you dealing with issues of the heart, mind, or spirit? Sometimes JUST TALKing about your problems can make the difference. Life is too short to be in an unhealthy, anxiety provoking situation that leaves you depressed and unhappy. With over 20 years in the counseling field, it has been my experience that we are what we believe. Those same beliefs prevent many from seeking counseling because of misconceptions.

Relationships can be challenging when you don't feel felt by your partner.
When you start, you may feel anxious, afraid, sad or even angry with your partner. EFT is my guide to help you share the weight of it: its not as heavy if two are sharing the load. My work with individuals explores internal responses to external stimuli. Together we learn to better manage your emotional responses so that you can feel better about it.

In my daily work as a therapist I strive to see my clients not only in the context of their immediate relationships but rather in relation to their personal history, family structure and the influence of the surrounding environment and the issues that affect their functioning.
I have worked on the field of psychology for more than 20 years, first as an undergraduate student in University of Havana, Cuba, then Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain and finally in Atlanta, Georgia, where I completed my internship and postdoctoral studies at Emory University. As part of my training and the last 11 years in private practice, I have had the privilege of working with very diverse and culturally different populations. This has given me the opportunity to see human experience from a much broader and deeper perspective. I have served the Hispanic community since 2008. I am licensed in Georgia and Florida.

There are few things braver than acknowledging when we need help and can no longer do life on our own. As a therapist, I count it my highest privilege to be a part of your story, to come alongside you in the midst of pain, hurt, confusion, loss, or tension, and to help you make sense of it all. I have five key concepts that motivate me as a therapist: story, space, acknowledgement, celebration, and growth. Stories matter. Including yours. And your story isn’t finished yet. Every time we meet, I want you to know and experience that this is your space, a space where you are free and safe to bring any and all of who you are.

It's been almost 10 years since I first began this work, and in that time, I've also developed a passion for couple's counseling, substance use / recovery support, and family support.
I primarily practice Motivational Interviewing (MI), and I also incorporate skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). For couples, I practice Gottman Method Couples Therapy (GMCT). I also utilize the CAPS-5 Assessment and Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy for addressing PTSD.

Wondering why you keep finding yourself in the same struggle, experiencing the same pain or relationship issues, yet again?
I work primarily from a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic orientation, drawing from attachment theory, object relations, self-psychology, and contemporary relational psychotherapy, to work with the deep long-term wounds, traumas, and patterns that shape self-perceptions and influence current experiences and struggles. I will incorporate other modalities as applicable.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
