I offer Brainspotting, a cutting edge EMDR derivative and neurobiological trauma treatment.
Feeling stuck? Wondering why you keep finding yourself in the same struggle, experiencing the same pain or relationship issues, yet again? Or perhaps you feel invisible or unheard, or can't find your own voice? I work with clients to explore how unresolved issues from the past impact the present. In an open and safe environment, we explore authentic feelings and lost aspects of self often censored in general society, toward greater personal insight, growth and change. An accepting and validating therapy relationship can be a key element in the healing of old wounds and opening up of new possibilities.

I’ve provided substance abuse counseling to federal inmates, trauma and PTSD therapy to combat veterans, and a variety of therapies for individuals, families, and couples.
My communication style is genuine, caring, honest, ethical, direct, and helpful. I believe in finding practical approaches to the problems that you have or currently are encountering. I also believe that you deserve to be told the truth and not just what I believe you want to hear to pacify or flatter you.

Once you feel secure, I use a tailored blend of EMDR and trauma-informed yoga strategies to facilitate your internal exploration and healing process.
*I OFFER EMDR INTENSIVES + WEEKLY SESSIONS* I wonder if you have sought feelings of fulfillment and security through pursuing external goals. If this hasn’t worked, maybe you strive to stay up and out of your pain with distraction or numbing - feeling unsafe in your body or the present moment. Perhaps you work to stay away from the parts of yourself you have learned are ‘bad’ and avoid feelings and memories that are scary and painful. Maybe you strive to feel ok by doing what you’ve learned you’re supposed to do, but rarely what you truly desire. This is not your failure! You’ve done what you needed to survive.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), specializing in working with men and women who are having difficulty balancing life and a variety of struggles (ranging from addictions, relationships, work, parenting, depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc.).
I am trained in EMDR. I've also led short term trips and facilitated counseling seminars internationally. We spent 18 months living and working in Sri Lanka. Also, being married to a former-first-responder has shaped my understanding of the difficult and heavy nature of "front lines" work.

My work is guided by somatic trauma-informed modalities that focus on helping your overworked nervous system re-negotiate how it finds a sense of peace and safety.
The truth is, you're a total badass who has been pushing through pain and difficulty most of your life. Most people around you don't notice that you’re struggling, because you've been holding it all together so long. But all the struggle and the work to keep it "under wraps" is starting to wear on you. You're tired. You might feel numb and struggle to connect with those you love or feel constantly on-edge or anxious. You may even have flashbacks of your worst moments or developed chronic pain or syndromes. It's starting to feel impossible to keep "holding it all together."

My treatment approach utilizes cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, trauma informed-care, problem solving, and mindfulness practices.
Let me meet you where you are on your life’s journey. Life in general can be challenging. Many of us endure distress that has resulted in mental, emotional, and physical anguish. Did you know changing the way you think can influence how you feel and in turn how you behave and react to life challenges? Let me equip you with the tools necessary to challenge automatic thoughts and relieve tension caused by stress. My passion is to help people facilitate change by teaching a new way to “think” of challenges as we go about life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
