As a mid-career professional, sexual
trauma
is the last thing you want to talk about. You’re doing more than surviving- by many definitions, you are thriving! However, most people don’t know your story. You long to show up authentically at work and home, but you struggle sometimes with feelings of inadequacy and self-esteem. You're hoping, "Maybe a therapist will understand my story without feeling burdened by it. Maybe they will help me sort out everything that has happened so I can get clarity on where to go from here."

My clients range in age from 14 to 70. I work with young people transitioning into adulthood, women with issues regarding childbearing (often have
trauma
histories) and
trauma
survivors as well as clients with mood disorders like depression and anxiety. I help people who feel "stuck" discover the choices they do have now, how their past coping skills were useful and can be updated and find meaning and purpose in their lives. I love using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Brainspotting along with working attachment styles. My director is Rebekah Tchouta and my supervisor is Diana Harris.

I address issues of
trauma
, ADHD, anger management, depression, anxiety, and other disorders.
Each of us has unique strengths and skills, developed through their personal experiences and stories, but we sometimes underestimate ourselves. When we encounter obstacles or feel overwhelmed, our own abilities can seem out of reach and we begin to practice negative thoughts towards ourselves and others. I am here to help you navigate those stressors and burdens, while supporting you towards gaining a deeper understanding of your own identity. It would be my privilege to provide you with a safe space to explore your narrative and to walk with you on your mental health journey!

Seeking therapy can feel a little daunting, or maybe even embarrassing, but you're making the right choice. Have you been struggling with grief or loss? Do you find it hard to stay happy even though you have achieved a lot? Have you discovered an unresolved
trauma
that needs healing? Are you experiencing anxiety in unmanageable ways? Or do you just want help letting go of things that are keeping you "stuck?" I think I can help with that.

I bring a
trauma
-informed perspective with advanced understanding of how events and feelings are connected to our body, brain, and the world around us.
I am excited to connect with people who find themselves ready for a change, but perhaps unsure of how to make that happen for themselves. I enjoy helping people explore all parts of their life to help make sense of present situations and to make a plan for a healthier future. This can look like discussing nutrition, exercise, emotional intelligence, past relationships and family dynamics, as well as a myriad of other topics. I prioritize a holistic approach for not only my clients, but for my own life as well and have personally experienced healthy change from this perspective.

I leave it to my clients dictate which method(s) will work best, but I typically utilize a combination of cognitive-behavioral, narrative, solution-focused &
trauma
-informed methods.
Have you ever been able to tell someone exactly how you were feeling or what you were thinking without worrying about their reaction? Has a terrible thing happened to you, or someone close to you, that you thought you'd 'dealt with' only to realize lately you've just mastered avoidance of the memories? Are you feeling lost in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic because of grief or exhaustion? Does your body seem to turn against you when you're anxious? You're not alone. You deserve relief.

I will teach you about anxiety, depression,
trauma
, and how your self-protective strategies keep you safe.
As a client-centered therapist, I believe in the human capacity to "self-actualize." In psychology, self-actualization is achieved when you're able to reach your full potential. I have learned that we are more alike than different in this work. Most people want to feel seen, heard, loved, valued, protected, and connected. Where one is missing, there is usually an amplification in anxiety. I am in the empathy business. I use connection and evidence-based treatments, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to help clients clarify their "why" and navigate a path to deeper fulfillment—professionally and personally.

Do your feelings and behaviors feel out of your control? Does it seem impossible to understand why? Integrated understanding of how mind, body and emotions interact along with learning new skills can help. I use neuroscience based research to inform my somatic and holistic approach teaching tools to work with the past and face challenges in the present. Difficulty can present an opportunity for growth and finding new strengths. I provide a nurturing environment in which to move from a feeling of disconnection to a place of trust and inner wisdom.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
