My goal as a Licensed Professional Counselor is to provide space and support for people who are in the liminal spaces of their lives. Maybe you are coping with a major loss and are searching for solid ground in the landscape of grief; perhaps you are growing older and encountering changes and challenges; maybe you are caring for an older person and could use some support; or perhaps you are deconstructing your faith or religious beliefs and wondering what, if anything, could remain. If you find yourself in a threshold of life, I'm here to help.

I believe the practice of being alive is a vibrant expression of all our parts, and healing begins with awareness of our inner world, our relationships, and the ways we’ve learned to relate in response to others. The way we show up in the world is shaped not only by who we are, but by trauma, attachment wounds, and patterns of self-silencing that can pull us away from ourselves. In therapy, I help clients deepen their understanding of these patterns, reconnect with their inner world, and move toward a more grounded, authentic way of being.

If you're feeling overwhelmed scrolling through profiles or wondering if you are even ready to go to therapy anyway, you're not alone. I know from experience both as the therapist and as the client that making the decision to go to therapy & setting up that first appointment is often the hardest part. I hope that you're proud of yourself for taking that step & making it here. My goal is to connect personally with each client so that we can work collaboratively to identify problems and goals and create a plan for treatment.

There was a time in life when asking for help was the hardest thing to do. To be honest, even as a professional counselor, asking for help is sometimes still hard. But it is easier to overcome. Depression and Anxiety is the most hidden illness among African American women today. Our culture teaches us that it is weak to ask for help and gaining a badge of honor means sacrificing your mental well being so that other can be happy. It's time to break the cycle and generational curse or mental illness in the BIPOC communities. It's time to seek help.

I specialize in treating adolescents (ages 12 and up) and adults with suicidal thoughts, PTSD and complex trauma, depression, anxiety, self-harm behaviors, chronic emotion dysregulation, and borderline personality disorder.
I believe that all humans share a basic desire to be well and happy, and to avoid pain and suffering. Sometimes, we just don’t know how to do that. I also believe that connection is key for us as humans. Without it, we struggle to survive much less thrive. Having only one person in our lives we feel connected to and accepted by can open the doorway for healing. Whether you've experienced trauma, loss, or just a general sense of suffering or emptiness, I will use a compassionate, nonjudgmental approach to build that connection and create a space where you can work through the pain and toward a life worth living.

Look…I know asking for help with your mental health is a huge task and incredibly anxiety inducing. Sometimes you make the calls and send the emails hoping no one gets back to you so that can be an excuse to put it off further. Sometimes you schedule, and you no-show your appointment. It’s scary, I’ve been there.
I like to think I’m not so scary. Let’s keep the intimidation of this task to a minimum, and make things about you and your decision to call or email your first step in your mental health journey. I would like an opportunity to talk and assist you in learning your goals or needs, and then partner in making them happen.

Les helps people facing depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic illness, and suicidal thoughts make real and lasting change in their lives.
Trauma does not always look dramatic from the outside. Often it looks like overfunctioning, emotional numbness, perfectionism, chronic anxiety, difficulty trusting, or feeling as though you can never fully relax. Many of the adults I work with have spent years appearing capable while privately carrying the effects of childhood trauma attachment wounds.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
