I believe EMDR can be vital in helping those, particularly men with sexual addiction, and deep core fears.
Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Feeling Shaky, Haven't been sleeping, avoiding people. Feelings like you had as a child - most of the time, these are signs of trauma. And for most men, trauma is something we believe everybody else can have, but not ourselves. My passion is to help men make peace with their past so they can live fully in their present and thrive in their future. I love the quote, "Trauma is in the eye of the beholder." Today might be your first day accepting that you have trauma. Will you let somebody else be there for you? If so, I'd love to be that person! And Let EMDR be the resource that can help you find your healing.

Life transitions are challenging whether it is navigating high school, adjusting to a child growing up, or realizing you are not where you expected at this point in life. My experience has been with people who have turned to alcohol, drugs, food, sex, or self-injury to cope with various life events. Others have shut down in the form of depression or paralyzing anxiety. Essentially the ways of handling life’s stressors are no longer effective, and in these moments we need help. I enjoy working with people who have a desire to learn how to better navigate their transition.

I specialize in men's issues, relationship issues, and couples therapy. "Men's issues" refers to numerous factors that contribute to men's dissatisfaction with life (e.g., work stress and few friends), as well as the consequences (e.g., behaviors that can become excessive and problematic -- substance use, workouts, sex, etc.). I offer a safe environment where you can address difficult issues. I am casual and down-to-earth. My approach is pragmatic and client-centered. (Visit my website to read more about my approach to therapy and to watch video clips from workshops that I've done for mental health professionals.)

“It is a joy to be hidden, and disaster not to be found” (D.W. Winnicott). I believe that people have a fundamental need to be seen and heard. I aim to create space that allows clients to be their authentic selves as they grapple with the challenges of past traumas and present hardships. Too often people feel as though they are experiencing pain alone. I strongly believe in the therapeutic alliance and the uniqueness that is co-created within the supportive relational space. Together we can understand and integrate one’s trauma, strengthen one's self-confidence and deepen insight.

Sexual Addiction Therapists
When should someone seek treatment for sex addiction?
People should seek treatment for sex addiction if they cannot control their sexual thoughts or behaviours to the point that it disrupts their ability to function in daily life, for example by threatening their finances, career, or relationships. This may include spending an excessive amount of time obsessing over sex, planning sex, watching pornography, or masturbating, as well as consistently engaging in risky sexual activities, using sex to escape distressing feelings, or attempting yet failing to control sexual behavior.
What are the most common treatment options for sex addiction?
Psychotherapy is the most common treatment for sex addiction; therapy helps patients better understand their compulsive thoughts and behaviors and develop strategies to manage their desires. Therapy may be supplemented by medications, such as antidepressants, mood stabilizers, anti-androgens, and the alcohol and substance use medication Naltrexone, as well as support groups, such as 12-step programs.
How long does therapy take for sex addiction?
Recovering from compulsive behavior takes time and effort. There’s no precise timeline for treatment, but research suggests 12 therapy sessions may be enough to see change. Treatment for sexual compulsions requires honesty in therapy, a commitment to understanding triggers and developing coping skills, and potential lifestyle changes such as cutting out alcohol or drugs.
What if sex addiction is left untreated?
Compulsive sexual behavior can have serious repercussions if left unaddressed. For example, if sexual obsessions consume the vast majority of a person’s time, they may lose their job. If they can’t stop paying for sex, their finances may suffer. If they’re dishonest in their relationships, their partner may leave them. If they consistently feel shame, they may struggle with anxiety, depression, or loneliness. Therapy can help people develop the tools to manage sexual thoughts and behaviors that feel uncontrollable.
