In addition to CBT and humor, I also incorporate positive psychology into my work with clients.
I’m Dr. Brandon, a pre-licensed therapist practicing in the State of Georgia. My approach to therapy is grounded in evidence-based practices, designed to help you identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors that may be impacting your mental health. But therapy is very dynamic and doesn't have to be all serious! As someone who loves to laugh and believes in the healing power of humor, I also incorporate a healthy dose of levity into my sessions. In fact, research has shown that laughter can boost mood, reduce stress, and even strengthen our immune systems.

Life happens in unexpected ways. Whether adjusting to a sudden life change or a known life transition, you may be feeling emotionally overwhelmed and exhausted. The time period of transitioning to adulthood is stressful enough and dealing with anxiety, hopeless feelings, or just uncertainty on how to move forward can make it unbearable. Many adults have found help by reaching out and working with a therapist. There is an opportunity to learn and grow from your experience. Maya Angelou says, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

Do you struggle with change like so many of us do? Do you look for ways to deal with it that may not be healthy for you? Do you wish things would resolve on their own or just go away? Change and conflict are inevitable. Some changes occur smoothly, some are stormy and others are very turbulent with high conflict and pain. We can all use some unbiased support during the stormy and turbulent times and yes, even during the smooth changes. We will explore together your aspirations and what may be impeding you in fully experiencing and living your own life. What really matters most to you and are you ready to explore it with me?

While I primarily use Positive Psychology and Solution Focused Therapy approaches, I also subscribe to the belief that the therapeutic process should be individualized and not a one size fits all treatment modality.
Congratulations on taking such a significant and courageous step in your self care. We can easily become stagnated by the struggles of our past or bounded by the worries of our future. My mission is to empower my clients through identifying and cultivating their strengths consequently building upon these qualities to achieve the vision and goals they have for themselves. I strive to foster a relationship that provides a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to share openly and freely.

We help people who look happy on the outside actually feel that way on the inside. It's exhausting trying to keep it all together. Most of us expend a huge amount of effort to make it look like our life is perfect; especially on social media. While our accomplishments may be lengthy, our relationships and fulfillment are lacking. We understand, and our approach reflects just that. Creating a connection is core to our approach to counseling. We work from a multitude of theoretical frameworks including person-centered, positive psychology , cognitive behavioral, family systems, and solution focused.

I am a certified life coach consultant whose passion and service is to help others improve their lives and reach their goals. I specialize in assisting youth in their self-discovery. I assist them in creating a blueprint on how to fit, understand, and be part of society. Youth experience traumatic emotions and can be deeply troubled and misguided. Parents become confuse and inpatient about their teens behaviors and decision making. My coaching techniques aim to help youths be positive, organize and responsible, grow confidence, become people-person, improve their lifestyle, and follow their dreams.

We all know that daily life can be busy, stressful, and difficult to manage, but there are times when life becomes overwhelming and we feel everything is out of balance (contributing to symptoms of anxiety and/or depression, relationship issues, and any number of other challenges). Currently, this is especially true as we face questions related to our health and well-being, in the midst of numerous uncertainties. If you are experiencing this, you might be considering seeking help through therapy or coaching. This can be a big decision, but is often a first step toward getting yourself back on track to living a more fulfilling life.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
