I've been working with adolescents and their parents for nearly 40 years. I have enjoyed helping families navigate the adolescent experience dealing with issues of parenting practices, adolescent self esteem and social development and issues of sexuality and sexual identity.

I particularly enjoy working with couples who may be navigating a difficult time in parenthood, dealing with loss, or struggling to integrate different parenting styles.
Have you found yourself feeling overwhelmed and at a loss about how to navigate life with the person you love? Do you ever wonder why everything feels so much harder than it used to? Has having kids or raising kids created disconnection in the relationship? Are you hoping to reconnect with your partner and establish more connection and intimacy?

Among my areas of work are: couples transitioning to parenthood, working with women who are experiencing prenatal and postpartum issues, families having young children with disabilities, parenting difficulties, relationship problems, adolescents and young adults struggling with life transitions, and general stress, anxiety and depression.
I reserve the first three sessions for us to discuss your concerns. During these sessions, we are both assessing whether we feel comfortable working together and whether my style of working with clients works for you. The choice to begin therapy will be agreed upon together.

My practice consists of virtual one-on-one sessions and virtual groups focusing on parent education and encouragement.
I believe that therapy provides a safe emotional, physical, and spiritual space to discover and walk through challenging experiences in order to identify and develop the person you want to be. There are seasons in life you may feel stuck, burned out, or complacent. Through the process of emotional growth you are then able to truly enjoy living as your true self while in relationship with others. My therapeutic focus includes working with individuals desiring more life-giving relationships and experiences. It is an honor and privilege to walk alongside you as you explore and discover a new part of your journey.

I see individual adults and parent/co- parent coaching clients in person and virtually.
There’s more to life than just working and caring for others. You struggled to build this life for yourself, but now there’s little joy in it. You feel disconnected, alone. You yearn to do more than just survive. You want to explore new parts of yourself, deepen your relationships, and find new energy for life. How can you get there when right now your plate is so full you’re barely making it through the day? Things can get better. I will walk with you through this time of awakening and help you refocus on your own needs as you journey toward the life you want. A life full of authenticity and connection.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
