I conduct individual, couples, and family therapy with adolescents and adults and specialize in treating, mood disorders, anxiety, eating disorders, body image issues and obesity issues, relationship issues, family issues, adolescent issues, GLBTQ issues and diversity issues.
I believe in establishing a collaborative approach with my clients to help support the therapeutic process. Using cognitive-behavioral techniques, I help my clients learn to identify and challenge their unhealthy thoughts and behaviors so they can develop fuller, more meaningful lives. I work with clients in managing their emotions, improve their ability to communicate with others, and build healthy and resilient self-concept. Utilizing a direct, interactive approach, with a touch of humor, I teach my clients coping skills so they can pull from their "toolbox" of skills in between sessions and eventually throughout their lives.

I work with many people who feel overwhelmed by stress, have lost sense of meaning in their lives, or feel out of control. They repeat the same life patterns again and again. Clients may have focused on the opinions of others more than their own, entered relationships/jobs they never wanted, or feel generally unfulfilled. My clients want to learn how to be happy again or for the first time. My therapeutic style builds on client self-acceptance, empowerment, and coping skills. We work together to help gain control over decisions, values, and communication styles.

I want to work with you who have struggled to become high valued, not maximizing their giftedness or have not discover who they are yet. Life can be overburdened or emotionally and spiritually taxed. Over time, your action can turn into inaction and burnout. I have worked with couples (married and unmarried) and on TV (Jim Jones & Chrissy: Vow or Never). I know your needs, issues and I can help achieve your goals if you put the work in (personal development). I want to work with men especially and maximize their potential as leaders or strong supporters. My goal is to reach out and pull out the KING in all men.

As an experienced, licensed counselor, I understand what steps are needed to make real healing possible. Just like the physical body, healing for the mind and spirit requires time and it is important to know at the onset that the counseling process will be a journey, rather than a sprint. I provide my clients with a safe, non-judgmental space in which to share their story, helping them take their first steps on the path to lasting health. As a trauma-informed, source-focused counselor, I prioritize addressing the root source of a problem rather than its symptoms.

Obesity Therapists

Can obesity be a cause of depression and anxiety?

Yes. It can be stressful and debilitating to carry excess weight. Many people make inaccurate assumptions about people who are overweight. This stigma may lead individuals to feel badly about themselves, decreasing their self-esteem, or leading to feelings of worthlessness. An association between obesity and depression is well-established.

When should an individual seek treatment for obesity?

When obesity, or the feelings it causes, creates a disruption in your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Examples include avoiding social situations due to anxiety, an inability to participate in family life as a result of health problems, or poor performance at work due to low self-esteem or other concerns.

Are there specific medications for weight loss?

There are several prescription drugs that can help with weight loss, including semaglutide and phentermine. These drugs reduce appetite and must be prescribed by a physician. Professionals will suggest lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, before turning to drugs, which have side effects and typically are prescribed only for a short duration. Many people regain weight after taking weight loss drugs if they have not made significant lifestyle changes.

What is body positivity?

Body positivity is a cultural movement that promotes the acceptance of bodies of all sizes and types, rather than those that conform to societal ideals of beauty. It places self-worth, self-acceptance, and an appreciation for one’s body as goals to achieve a happier, healthier attitude about oneself and others, focusing on who a person is rather than what they look like.
