I incorporate
mindfulness
and experiential therapies, along with traditional techniques, to help individuals overcome adversity and renew their lives.
I help individuals motivated to change their lives or relationships--to break unhealthy patterns, eliminate emotional pain, or heal from a significant event that has taken over their life. With deep respect, tender regard, and a healthy dose of humor, I help you draw on your strengths, foster emotional resilience, deepen self-awareness, and reshape your identity to live the life you want to live. With my encouragement, you'll identify barriers that keep you stuck, release emotions that weigh you down, and make empowering choices that free you from the past and create a promising new future.

I approach therapy through a cognitive, culturally sensitive, and
mindfulness
based lens.
Beginning counseling is a brave step in facing the heavy emotions, experiences, and shame we may be carrying. I believe we all have the power to re-write unhelpful narratives, challenge negative thoughts, and transform our lives. In my practice, my goal is to cultivate a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to heal, increase self awareness, and develop tools to help navigate life’s challenges. I view healing not as a destination, but as a daily practice that allows us to connect with our authentic self and inherent wholeness.

Do you struggle with change like so many of us do? Do you look for ways to deal with it that may not be healthy for you? Do you wish things would resolve on their own or just go away? Change and conflict are inevitable. Some changes occur smoothly, some are stormy and others are very turbulent with high conflict and pain. We can all use some unbiased support during the stormy and turbulent times and yes, even during the smooth changes. We will explore together your aspirations and what may be impeding you in fully experiencing and living your own life. What really matters most to you and are you ready to explore it with me?

*I offer both evening and daytime appointments* Lots of people know that they need to make a shift or change in their lives but need a warm, supportive therapist and a chance to lean into the difficult areas of their lives. I’m an especially good fit for folks who appreciate the use of humor and lightheartedness in the work, but also want to move deeper and connect with themselves and their emotions in new ways, instead of always having to compartmentalize or “tough it out” with their emotions. My areas of clinical focus include therapy for men and
mindfulness
practices, but I also work well with lots of different people.

In practice today, I use a relational approach, incorporating CBT,
mindfulness
and other modalities.
I provide therapy for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and relational issues. Many of my clients have found me during times of transition with their partners, at work, or within their family. I work most often with adults and older adolescents. I am interested in how we come to understand relationships from experiences within our family, and see this as closely related to how we view ourselves and others today. I hope my clients find therapy with me a safe place to explore patterns, expand awareness, and find ways to make change.

My counseling style integrates elements of CBT (how automatic thoughts and beliefs affect our behaviors and limit our choices), Motivational Interviewing (how our motivations and core values affect our readiness for change), positive psychology (enhancing strengths and building resilience), and
mindfulness
training (focusing on the present with acceptance).
We all know that life is busy, stressful, and difficult to keep in balance, but when things become overwhelming or out of sync, the decision to seek counseling or coaching is a gutsy first step to getting back on track. I believe we owe it to ourselves and our loved ones to pay attention to our mind-body health, and I take a non-judgmental and collaborative approach to help identify what may be holding you back from a rewarding and fulfilling life. Together we can explore techniques to improve coping and communication and help you move forward with clarity and purpose.

I have extensive experience is CBT, ACT, psychodynamic and
mindfulness
approaches working with a variety of populations.
Are you feeling depressed? anxious? Perhaps like you are not living to your best potential? As a psychotherapist, I help people create a safe space whereby building a relationship, unraveling issues, demystifying oneself, voicing hopes and dreams, and developing wisdom and insight, one can emerge from (and exist in) the forest that is life with a deeper understanding of how to navigate oneself and the world around us. It is my philosophy that great psychotherapy not only addresses the issues on the table, but also guides one towards greater overall life fulfillment.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
