Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists in Atlanta, GA
Hi! I'm Kim Neundorfer, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. I work with adult clients throughout Georgia via telehealth. My therapeutic approach is, first and foremost, client-centered, as there is no one-size-fits-all path to healing. I often work from a family systems perspective, as none of us live in a vacuum, and our families, friends, partners, and colleagues shape who we are. I see people as not just what they show on the outside, but as an ever-growing accumulation of internal and external experiences.

Using Psychodynamic, CBT, and Internal Family Systems techniques, I help clients explore past influences, challenge unhelpful thoughts, and understand inner conflicts.
Are you ready to understand why you think, feel, and act the way you do? Have skills-based interventions been helpful, but you feel like you never got down to the root of the issue? It's time to delve deeper into the underlying causes that shape your behaviors and emotions. By exploring the core of your psychological landscape, you can uncover hidden patterns and unresolved conflicts that influence your daily life.

My favorite therapy model is IFS, and I recently completed my Level 1 Training.
I believe that healing is based in connection. Your life experiences may have disconnected you from yourself for many reasons: depression, anxiety, trauma... My goal is to connect with you where and how you are and to help you build the connections you need to reach your goals. Most importantly, I want to help you connect with and trust yourself. Connection helps build courage to make change. To that end, I do my best to be authentic and transparent, and I focus on collaboration. I ask you to be as honest as possible with me and to be open to that connection. You are my most valuable expert.

My integrated approach consists of EFT, CBT, DBT, attachment based therapy, IFS, Humanistic and structural techniques to name a few.
Are you ready to integrate loving kindness and compassion into the relationship you have with yourself and others? This may seem an impossible healing for those who have endured relational betrayal, death, loss, hurt or trauma. However, shifting focus towards meaning, resilience, and possibility can liberate you from your past and present suffering. What does this mean for you and your loved ones? It means here is an invitation to sit with a non-judgmental human being while you recover, connect, and heal in new ways. It means you may shed old roles, affirm new strengths, and learn others with vulnerability and without guard.

To guide us on your therapeutic journey, I often integrate neuroscience with Humanistic-Existential therapy and Internal Family Systems to strengthen the relationship with yourself and Interpersonal therapeutic models based in attachment theory and developmental processes to strengthen the relationship with those closest to you.
I believe you are on the journey to become who you already are and who you are is infinitely complex. Often times external influences, circumstances, events, or relationships block you from living in the fullness of your complexity, and this can lead to psychological distress. I work with clients and couples to surface these conscious and unconscious barriers to growth so that you can lead a life responsive to who you are rather than reactive to what is going on around you. My hope is that, together, you discover not just relief from symptoms but optimal psychological functioning and deeply satisfying relationships.

Accepting new clients. I believe therapy is a collaborative process between the two of us. Our work together will help you live a meaningful and purposeful life, feel safe in your body, understand your behavioral and attachment patterns, and heal from relational trauma. Our earliest relationships inform the way we respond to situations past and present. As adults, we may notice some of these patterns are more harmful than helpful. Through this framework, I incorporate acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Brainspotting, internal family systems ( IFS), and mindful body-based approaches into our work together.

I am trained in a variety of advanced therapies to provide comprehensive healing including IFS, EMDR, RO-DBT, and ERP.
Everyone else thinks you've got it all together, but inside you feel like you have to play a role to fit into your own life. You have to be perfect, maybe rehearse what you'll say ahead of time, and then tell yourself that no one cares about you since they can't get close enough to know the real you. You know how to appear confident, but deep inside, there is this voice telling you that no one sees you. You crave the feelings of safety and being fully known. You want to feel connected to the people you love. Instead, you feel desperate to maintain control and feel stuck in painful relationships.

I apply Somatic Experiencing (SE) practices to help promote nervous system regulation and EMDR and Internal Family Systems ( IFS) to soften the impact of traumatic experiences that keep you feeling stuck.
I specialize in treating relational trauma and attachment wounds. Many of my clients are adult children of emotionally immature parents who struggle with low self-esteem, forming healthy relationships, and fear of abandonment. This can manifest as having difficulty setting boundaries, chronic anxiety or depression, substance abuse, love and relationship addiction, difficulty self soothing, trouble regulating emotions, and a sense of unease in your own body. If you grew up with an emotionally immature or unavailable parent, it’s possible to find ways to prioritize your emotional well-being and growth.

I incorporate Internal Family Systems ( IFS), embodied processing + CBT in session.
If simply moving from one day to the next has left you battling feelings of overwhelm, stuck-ness, or being "less than"- I invite you to curiously challenge that narrative! Somewhere along the way, we can all get pulled away from who we truly are. Our world often demands perfection + productivity, leaving us wondering "What actually brings me joy? What is my story?" You deserve to be the author of your life. Together, let's cultivate a safe place to work towards your goals while healing the body and mind.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
