I adhere to the philosophy that relationships are at the core of the human experience, yet there are times when healing can't be done alone. My work is fundamentally relational. I am warm, relatable, active, and flexible, balancing exploratory work with directness. I have over 15 years of experience with a diverse body of clients. I divide my time between clinical work, teaching, and research.

Life can be stressful. Whether it be your family , partners, work, and/or friends— It can all be too much at times. Sometimes, we just need a little help and/or someone to talk it out with. I can be that person. My therapeutic style is an integrative type. My foundations are CBT, Gestalt, and Reality Therapy. This means, we will identify then confront the challenges or issues you’re having. Figure out what is contributing to them, whether we delve into the past and/or explore the present. We will talk and process, and you will put your new tools and techniques into practice (outside of session).

I am trained in the use of EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing (SE), SSP (Safe & Sound Protocol), PVT and attachment work.
The decision to begin (or deepen) therapy is a big one. I imagine you’ve attempted to manage a lot of things as best as you possibly could and that led you here. I’m so happy you’re here. I help clients navigate life when there’s been a few (or many) wrong turns and bumps in the road. I am skilled at working with all parts of a client when they have a history of trauma (knowingly or not). This often takes the form of eating disorders, anxiety, emotional overwhelm or dysregulation, dissociation, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, or substance use.

With a special focus on couples and family counseling, I help my clients improve communication and mutual understanding, maximize intimacy and connection, eliminate relationship-defeating interaction cycles and behavior patterns, and rebuild marriages and relationships that encourage lasting positive change.
Everyone wants to live feeling fulfilled and happy; that is a universal truth deeply rooted in our human nature. While we all share that truth, figuring out exactly what makes us feel fulfilled and happy isn’t always easy. Sometimes we find ourselves feeling just a little bit off. Other times we find ourselves completely lost, deeply unhappy, and consistently unfulfilled. Whatever the case may be, experiencing meaningful and lasting positive change is entirely possible - and that is exactly what I help my clients achieve in the warmest, non-judgmental, and productive atmosphere possible.

At Briarpatch Solutions, we take a systems approach to therapy drawing upon the psychodynamic model, looking at the whole person or family in their respective stages of psychosocial individual or relational development.
I began my practice, Briarpatch Solutions, in 2022 as a solo practice. Now in order to meet the growing demand for my services, I am expanding into a group practice. As such, I am now working toward my AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation and offering supervision to MFT interns and graduates seeking placement and/or hours. This allows us to offer affordable mental health care to persons who are without insurance. We are an inclusive practice with doors open to all people. Our philosophy is that every human being deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion and have access to quality, affordable healthcare.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
