I aspire to establish a healing atmosphere grounded in a variety of therapeutic interventions, including Family Systems Theory, Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian Therapy), Mindfulness, Existential Psychology, Psychodynamic Theories, and Art Therapy techniques.
No matter how hard we try in life, inevitably we come across unpredictable waters. Sometimes riding the waves of life can be delightful and sometimes it can be soul crushing. Thus, in my own life I seek to "embrace uncertainty and live joyfully through the process." I seek to empower my clients to become the best versions of themselves, especially during times of adversity. I work with individuals and adolescents to evaluate their life goals and to gain insight and clarity about factors that might that influence their success.

My therapeutic focus is on relationships, individuals, and couples. The goal of my practice is to help clients experience healthy relationships and peace within by integrating Christian theology and psychology. Since successful relationships begin with a clear perspective of self, I emphasize the importance of boundaries, attachment patterns, self-esteem, and emotional awareness and regulation. Individual deep work, talk therapy, and family systems therapy challenge practices of thinking, feeling, and relating. My strengths include establishing rapport through respect, empathetic listening, and a safe environment to explore old wounds and new frontiers with a specialty in Christian spirituality in counseling.

Experiencing the challenges of being a military spouse, along with my strong family values, makes me a great choice to assist my clients.
My passion is to help strengthen the relationship between parent and child. You may feel sometimes that you and your child are having difficulty connecting to where you feel like you are not on the same page. This disconnect coupled with the pressures of school issues, can manifest in your teen through behaviors such as anger, anxiety, depression, self-identity crisis, and even self harm.

At Briarpatch Solutions, we take a systems approach to therapy drawing upon the psychodynamic model, looking at the whole person or family in their respective stages of psychosocial individual or relational development.
I began my practice, Briarpatch Solutions, in 2022 as a solo practice. Now in order to meet the growing demand for my services, I am expanding into a group practice. As such, I am now working toward my AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation and offering supervision to MFT interns and graduates seeking placement and/or hours. This allows us to offer affordable mental health care to persons who are without insurance. We are an inclusive practice with doors open to all people. Our philosophy is that every human being deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion and have access to quality, affordable healthcare.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
