I have a broad range of experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma,
family
dynamics, grief and loss and navigating life transitions. Recognizing the courage and vulnerability it takes to enter into a therapeutic relationship, I make every effort to create a comfortable, safe space that makes each individual feel genuinely seen, heard and understood. I practice from a place of openness and curiosity. That means I don’t make assumptions and I don’t have one set, structured approach. With solution-focused techniques and a person-centered philosophy, I empower clients to overcome challenges using their own unique strengths.

Each of us has unique strengths and skills, developed through their personal experiences and stories, but we sometimes underestimate ourselves. When we encounter obstacles or feel overwhelmed, our own abilities can seem out of reach and we begin to practice negative thoughts towards ourselves and others. I am here to help you navigate those stressors and burdens, while supporting you towards gaining a deeper understanding of your own identity. It would be my privilege to provide you with a safe space to explore your narrative and to walk with you on your mental health journey!

Life can be stressful. Whether it be your
family
, partners, work, and/or friends— It can all be too much at times. Sometimes, we just need a little help and/or someone to talk it out with. I can be that person. My therapeutic style is an integrative type. My foundations are CBT, Gestalt, and Reality Therapy. This means, we will identify then confront the challenges or issues you’re having. Figure out what is contributing to them, whether we delve into the past and/or explore the present. We will talk and process, and you will put your new tools and techniques into practice (outside of session).

Having been trained in a humanistic/holistic model of therapy (Experiential, Gestalt, Psychodynamic,
Family
Systems), I have adhered to what is now called an “integrative” approach to mental health issues. Specifically, when I engage with a client we focus on the interaction of all the dimensions of his or her life, i.e., biological, psychological, social, behavioral, and spiritual. Subsequently, we embark on an exciting journey together to explore a path that leads to a more optimal state of well-being and a greater sense of wholeness.

I am excited to connect with people who find themselves ready for a change, but perhaps unsure of how to make that happen for themselves. I enjoy helping people explore all parts of their life to help make sense of present situations and to make a plan for a healthier future. This can look like discussing nutrition, exercise, emotional intelligence, past relationships and
family
dynamics, as well as a myriad of other topics. I prioritize a holistic approach for not only my clients, but for my own life as well and have personally experienced healthy change from this perspective.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
