I practice Emotion Focused Therapy ( EFT ) and conceptualize couples from a lens of knowing that our core needs of attachment drive behaviors.
Do you find yourself wishing your relationships with others were deeper? Do you crave intimacy, to feel known, listened to, and valued? In our world today, this deep sense of connection can be difficult to attain. As a therapist, I prioritize relationship, offer therapeutic connection, and facilitate intrapersonal and relational growth. I work with individuals to explore identity, sexuality, and the difficulties that may come along with attempting to know one’s self deeply and live authentically, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and family conflict. I particularly enjoy and specialize in working with queer and bisexual women.

I am honored to help individuals struggling with fears and challenges that hinder their growth and exploration of life. My commitment to reach those who are experiencing great sadness and a lack of motivation in their lives helps me to understand my clients' alienation and pain. I take it as my duty to foster a relationship with those in need and reach them on their level. With couples, I use emotionally focused therapy ( EFT ) to help clients change their negative patterns and move to a new music where they yearn to support each other.

In addition to traditional talk therapy to glean how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors inform your process, I use mind-body awareness, emotionally focused therapy and provide psychoeducation about the neuroscience of trauma to help you understand, identify, and achieve optimal well-being.
I believe that everyone has the capacity to accomplish their goals. My role is to help you uncover and understand the obstacles and trauma that are getting in the way of achieving what you desire, and then help you tap into your inner resources to succeed. With empathy and authenticity, I work alongside my clients to promote healing and discovery of their power to change. Whether you are experiencing symptoms related to anxiety, depression, grief and loss; problems with relationships, parenting, or self-esteem; or a general sense of disconnectedness – whatever it is – I recognize that therapy is self-work, and it's not easy.

As a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, I don't see people as damaged or couples and families as incompatible.
Do you feel like you're just going through the motions, or sinking in sadness, anxiety, or stress? Are your relationships tense, distant, or non-existent? Are you struggling to find hope that life can feel good again, and love can be connected and safe? Nothing can be more distressing than when our marriage or partnership has become a constant source of conflict and loneliness rather than the safe haven we anticipated enjoying for a lifetime. We all long to be seen and loved for who we really are, and need to know we can count on each other through the ups and downs of life.

I have been trained in the most researched forms of couples therapy that have proven outcomes; I completed all three levels of Gottman Method Couples therapy, as well as level 1 of TEAM-CBT, Certified Prepare and Enrich Facilitator and Emotionally Focused Therapy, and the CBCT (Cognitively-Based Compassion Training) approach.
Most couples who consider therapy feel stuck in a destructive cycle that becomes exhausting, isolating, and lonely. We all feel lost at times and do not know how to stop hurting. We all share a common experience at some point in our lives: when our relationships become brittle. Thankfully, we now live in a time where there is an answer based on solid research-based approaches. You don’t have to keep guessing how to make it better.

I am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, EMDR/trauma therapy, and I am a Registered Play Therapist & Supervisor, allowing me to work with children, adults, couples, and families, including those considering or undergoing separation or divorce.
I believe that we are all trying our best and that we are the experts on ourselves and our families. However sometimes life brings us more than we know how to handle, and we may see symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, and unhealthy or disruptive behavior in ourselves, our relationships, and our children. This can leave us feeling frustrated, hopeless, and isolated as individuals, couples, and parents. Thankfully, therapy can help us and our children move beyond our pain, fear, and destructive behavior, and toward a greater sense of peace, happiness, and belonging.

Depending on client interest and need, my work with clients may also include and draw from: psychotherapeutic/spiritual exploration, shadow work, meditation/visualization, EMDR, EFT , energy psychology, personality drive integration (using a tool called the Enneagram).
Whether you are facing life challenges such as relationship problems, addiction, work concerns, or health issues, you can move through with more elegance and ease. To me therapy is a gift--a gift of opportunity. An opportunity to heal from the past by increasing understanding of it and gleaning from it the gems that it holds. An opportunity to break long-held rigid patterns born of that past and to start consciously creating new, flexible ones. An opportunity to hold hope for a future free from the past that makes the present a time of freedom and choice.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
