I use models like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy ( DBT) within a strengths-based approach, focusing on identifying and building upon what you already do well.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Georgia and California with a genuine curiosity about people and their unique stories. With a foundation in healthcare social work, I’ve spent the last 15 years in a variety of roles within hospital and primary care settings. I have a particular interest in working with diverse populations, and I’ve most recently focused on supporting senior citizens. As a working parent, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family.

I often draw from evidence-based interventions such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT), and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I believe the past often shows up in the present and I strive to create a space where we can honor your story and help you feel grounded in the here and now. Having lived in several parts of the world and experienced many different cultures, I have found what remains universal are the ways in which people tell stories and make meaning of their experiences. This is a powerful tool in the therapeutic space as well and one I make room for. By focusing on the counseling relationship, my hope is to cultivate a space that is welcoming and free of judgment.

We use CBT often as well as tracking patterns of behaviors, DBT, and a sprinkle of Gottman for couples.
Have you ever found yourself wondering: why does this keep happening? Perhaps you keep having the same argument over and over with your partner or child (or arguing with your partner ABOUT your child; we've all been there). Maybe you've just been diagnosed with ADHD or diabetes and want to find ways understand and cope with these new diagnoses. We are dedicated to helping you understanding how and why you respond the way you do to the twists and turns of life along with teaching the skills to be the person, or have the relationship, you've always wanted.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who is gentle and collaborative in my approach drawing from evidenced based treatment models such as Humanistic/Client-centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, etc.
Kate Braestrup says it best: "I'm not here to keep you from freaking out. I'm here to be with you while you freak out, or grieve or laugh or suffer or sing. It is a ministry of presence. It is showing up with a loving heart." I truly believe that everyone could benefit from psychotherapy at some point in their lives -- we all need support. Taking the step towards seeking help of any kind can sometimes be difficult. I consider it a privilege to be chosen to walk out life's challenges with you.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
