What makes psychotherapy effective is the client/ therapist relationship ; it is important to find someone with whom you can connect and feel at ease. I have worked with individuals, couples , groups and families for over 35 years. Clients come to me to address life issues such as personal/professional transitions, stress in relationships, health issues, grief and bereavement, anxiety and depression. I use integrative therapy, which combines traditional psychotherapy with proven alternative mind-body practices: meditation, visualization and tai chi/qigong. As a result, the mind, spirit and body all work together to promote healing, wellness and personal growth.

Do you see a pattern in your relationship , career, or life choices? Do you feel you are "going through the motions" and success - as you define it - continues to elude you? Perhaps fear, stress, anxiety, or depression are appearing? Are you feeling stuck in the human experience? Self-sabotaging tactics or traumatic experiences can make anyone feel like they are on the sidelines of life rather than being fully "on their game." Even the strongest of us all have a need for support. Not only is counseling my career, it is my passion and calling. I consider myself a bridge to helping people grow into the best version of themselves.

My approach is rooted in empathy, sincerity, and the importance of genuine relationship .
Navigating the changes associated with life can be difficult. We make choices that can place us in positions for success, or that can lead us into places where our ability to cope can be compromised. Even still, we may not know the causes of our challenges or what steps to take to better manage them. My work with clients is supportive, goal oriented, and rooted in proven methods. I help clients to feel better, to understand better, and to perform better.

Relationships can be extra complicated for LGBTQ people. You may have grown up feeling family, friends, or community didn’t understand you, or maybe you experienced outright rejection. You probably didn’t get to date in high school, and most of us don’t grow up with mentors who can help us navigate the world of dating. Whether you’re having trouble making a relationship work or you’re in a long-term relationship that just doesn’t feel fulfilling, I can help you find or build a strong relationship .

I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.
“It is a joy to be hidden, and disaster not to be found” (D.W. Winnicott). I believe that people have a fundamental need to be seen and heard. I aim to create space that allows clients to be their authentic selves as they grapple with the challenges of past traumas and present hardships. Too often people feel as though they are experiencing pain alone. I strongly believe in the therapeutic alliance and the uniqueness that is co-created within the supportive relational space. Together we can understand and integrate one’s trauma, strengthen one's self-confidence and deepen insight.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
