"Enter into
children
's play and you will find the place where their minds, hearts, and souls meet.
I work primarily with
children
, teens, and young adults experiencing stress and anxiety, executive functioning deficits, identity confusion, mood disorders, grief and loss, and life adjustment challenges (i.e. separation/divorce). By providing a safe, non-judgmental environment, clients can effectively express, explore, and process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I believe every client is equipped with a unique set of strengths and skills that can help them overcome adversity. By helping clients rework negative perceptions of events in their lives or of themselves, clients can move to a more regulated state.

My job is about hope. Many of my former clients tell me that they were surprised and relieved to feel so much better after therapy. They were unsure if they would ever find relief from the challenges they had. That is why I do what I do. It is a joy to share in that journey of healing. I specialize in anxiety, depression, and trauma. I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help my clients process and move forward from their traumatic experiences. I love using play and expressive arts to engage
children
and adolescents. I also have a special place in my heart for those who struggle with eating disorders and self harm.

A sensitive
child
, a frustrated teen, an anxious young adult, an overwhelmed parent. My heart and experiences lie here. I aim to create an empathetic and trusting environment where we can navigate and better understand those big feelings as well as practice and implement strategies to elicit change. I also find when we explore our strengths and emphasize our self-worth, we become ready for growth and less "stuck".

I have a general private practice seeing
children

Deciding to begin the process of psychotherapy can be daunting as it is the recognition that you want to make changes in your life. The motivation to change might be obvious - there is a specific issue to address - but, sometimes the motivation is not as clear. You want to feel better or have different understandings of why things are and how you can affect the outcome. It is my privilege to accompany you on this expedition. My goal, as a therapist, is to facilitate growth by providing a space that is respectful and empathic, while also providing an opportunity for insight and understanding.

Too often, standards are status quo; however, with issues as sensitive as those faced by
children
, families, schools, and communities, only the highest standard will do.
With almost two decades of experience, I know that seeking help can be difficult for anyone no matter the age, background, or circumstance. However, I believe that you are stronger than you seem, braver than you feel, and smarter than you think you are. Standard of Care Psychological Services sets the standard higher because you deserve it. Let us help you reach your full potential. We set the standard higher for you by operating from a set of core values that we integrate into our work with clients and referral sources: accurate assessments, evidenced based treatment, integrity, ethics, competence, respect, and advocacy.

I believe that we are all trying our best and that we are the experts on ourselves and our families. However sometimes life brings us more than we know how to handle, and we may see symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, and unhealthy or disruptive behavior in ourselves, our relationships, and our
children
. This can leave us feeling frustrated, hopeless, and isolated as individuals, couples, and parents. Thankfully, therapy can help us and our
children
move beyond our pain, fear, and destructive behavior, and toward a greater sense of peace, happiness, and belonging.

Whether you are seeking out support for yourself or your
child
, I am happy to provide a complimentary phone consultation to ensure that we are a good fit for working together.
Adolescence and young adulthood brings unique challenges and excitement that often requires extra support from sources outside of friends and family. Navigating changes and life transitions can feel overwhelming, anxiety producing, and generally stressful. Finding the right therapist is one of the most important factors in your success towards feeling better. I work with
children
, teens, young adults, and highly sensitive individuals seeking support with anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, managing boundaries, and executive functioning.

Kate Braestrup says it best: "I'm not here to keep you from freaking out. I'm here to be with you while you freak out, or grieve or laugh or suffer or sing. It is a ministry of presence. It is showing up with a loving heart." I truly believe that everyone could benefit from psychotherapy at some point in their lives -- we all need support. Taking the step towards seeking help of any kind can sometimes be difficult. I consider it a privilege to be chosen to walk out life's challenges with you.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
