The training I received includes Internal Family Systems , Co-Active Coaching Gestalt, different types of Couples Therapy, Conversational Intelligence, Self Psychology, Short Term Solutions Focused Therapy and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.
All of us have had many transitions throughout our lifetime. These transitions can be experienced as positive, neutral or negative. My belief is that all of these passages are opportunities for change and growth. For these reasons I enjoy working with individuals and couples that are in transition .

You don't have to face life's challenges on your own. You might be telling yourself that you should be stronger or should be able to handle everything life throws your way. These "shoulds" can lead to feeling disconnected from the people in your life, decreased focus and motivation, problems caring for yourself, and increased use of alcohol or other substances to avoid unhappy thoughts and feelings. Beginning the process of therapy can help you gain compassion for and a better understanding of yourself, as well as develop skills to handle life's difficult times in a healthier way.

What does it mean to be a man, and more importantly how does that feel? Together we will unlearn the limiting beliefs that stem from our upbringing and societal narratives, and instead learn how to acknowledge, accept, and deal with the full spectrum of emotions we have. Do you feel you are not properly heard in your relationship by your partner? Do the same troubles keep coming up within your relationship? I assist couples dealing with conflicts within their relationship such as trust, communication, infidelity, and the effects of past traumas surfacing.

Hi, I’m Shatevia. I believe that learning to love and honor yourself is a worthy goal. I help my clients learn tools that allow them to have inner peace, joy, and a sense of purpose. I help adults and teenagers better manage their focus, anxiety, depression, and fitting in at work or school. I support clients with the following: Depression (lack of motivation), anxiety, ADD/ ADHD (focus, attention to detail, and poor communication), adjusting to transitions, becoming more of yourself, managing culture issues, anger issues, and childhood trauma. Regulating your emotions (like anger explosions) may also be a challenge.

Are you struggling with substance abuse, codependency, anxiety, or depression? Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed, unfocused, or empty. Do you find it difficult to pinpoint, but you recognize there's something off in your relationships? Maybe you are facing challenges due to loss, a lack of direction, or simply due to transitions we all experience as human beings. Sometimes it's difficult to even name the struggle, but you long for things to be better. The good news is therapy can help.

It’s truly incredible when a person sees that there’s something inside them that they want to work on, and then they go after that. It’s incredible that you’re here, that you’re searching. The people who want to be the best version of themselves, who want to break “generational traumas” and work on their mental health so that they can pass down health, wholeness, peace, and light to the next generation - those are the superheroes. Our mental health is our foundation for how we relate to ourselves and world around us after all - Our God, ourselves, and others.

You’re in a really shitty place. You’re angry, drained, hurt and tired of the constant thought loop that never seems to shut off. You’re exhausted with trying to remain positive and that’s not working anymore. You have things you never really talked about that are still eating away at you. No one seems to get you, so you connect more with characters in your favorite tv shows, movies, or songs. You’re trying to navigate through new transitions or relationships, and nothing seems to be working out. You feel like you’ve hit a wall.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
