Asking for help can be very difficult especially if you are able to manage most aspects of your life independently. When the uncontrollable aspects of life begin to emerge and stay around it can often lead to feeling out of control, stuck, or unproductive even for someone that is usually successful. The truth is that life happens no matter the best of our own intentions and that is where I can work with you to reclaim your ideal life and achieve your goals.

Too many moms are
sleep
-deprived because of the misinformation and stigma surrounding the subjects of
sleep
training and healthy infant
sleep
. Poor infant
sleep
is a major source of postpartum anxiety. Poor parental
sleep
is a major source of postpartum depression and rage. If you are a momma dealing with postpartum anxiety, depression, rage or PTSD, you may find it even more difficult to get your baby into a good routine for feeding and sleeping and you might struggle to follow through with goals for
sleep
training. Once your baby is finally sleeping well, you may be one of many mommas who still experience significant
insomnia
.

Living a full, purposeful, powerful life feels out of reach sometimes. Obstacles can get in our way and stop us. Life can be interrupted by poor
sleep
, chronic health issues, or by accidents or health conditions that led to reduced cognitive skills. These conditions can create real stressors, anxiety, depression or reduced ability to cope with the demands of modern living. Your well-being is of the upmost importance to me. Your ability to embrace your life and find joy and creativity can be rekindled despite your circumstances. If you are concerned about your cognitive skills, I can help you find solutions and work arounds.

insomnia
or recurring nightmares, I'm the
sleep
specialist for you. I've helped hundreds of people like you get back your natural, honest
sleep
in an average of only 4 to 8 weekly sessions. My speciality is integrating the treatment of
insomnia
and nightmares with the mental health difficulties that often come along for the ride: post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic anxiety and worry, depression, and more. This work often includes a gradual taper and elimination of the
sleep
medication(s) you're taking (even if you've been taking them for years), if this is a treatment goal for you.

Decades of research have gone into developing evidence-based treatment protocols for disorders such as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Depression and
Insomnia
.
I specialize in evidence-based treatments (EBTs) for patients with OCD and trauma related disorders. These treatments are generally more effective and efficient than traditional talk therapy because they directly target symptoms and provide specific exercises aimed at breaking behavioral patterns that maintain symptoms. Traditional psychotherapy emphasizes gaining insight. Insight does not necessarily lead to symptom reduction. I focus on changing behavior because only by changing what you do will you be able to change how you feel.

Life can be difficult for us all, but does it seem tougher on you at times? Maybe there actually IS something making life more challenging. Do you sometimes have feelings of guilt, shame, hopelessness, or panic, but can't identify the causes of these? Do you suffer from
sleep
problems, low energy, stomach issues, or muscle tension that you can't explain? Do you have trouble concentrating or have racing thoughts that are impossible to control? These are just some of the ways that anxiety and depression affects us. Add in daily stress or unresolved trauma and it can become challenging or even impossible to cope with daily life.

When you don't feel like yourself anymore. You might find yourself acting almost like a different person: snapping at loved ones, feeling threatened, sleeplessness and nightmares, anxiety or depression... It can be confusing and uncomfortable. It can feel like there is a line between two worlds of "you before" and "you after". It's hard to know when you can fix the problem yourself, and when to ask for help, but what you're doing isn't working. It is possible to return to a new version of the old you. You don't have to be a slave to your emotions anymore. You and I work together to build the skills you need to cope.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
