When they are not, they can be painful and consuming, and lead to depression, anxiety, and despair. I specialize in helping people with all kinds of relationship challenges- affairs , divorce, friendships, work relationships, break-ups, step-family transitions, parent's divorce, dating, remarriage, parenting, business partnerships, coming out, feeling distant, feeling stuck, feeling insecure. I focus on improved communication and intimacy between couples and have years of experience helping couples navigate traumatic issues after marital infidelity .
I have been a therapist since 1991 and have had the opportunity to work in varied settings with a diverse population. I approach therapy with a non-judgmental, caring attitude, believing wholeness and healing occurs if individuals, couples and families can acknowledge their strengths as well as learn from their weaknesses. I am a professional who explores how a person operates and navigates within their own family system, with hopes that they find clues to their own particular functioning and modify their behaviors in ways that ultimately lead to health.

Attention guys: Is the stress and anxiety of modern life pushing you over the edge? Is the daily grind driving you crazy or boring you silly? Risking your job or failing out of school because you can't stop gaming or looking at porn? Is social media taking over your life? About to lose your relationship because of your sexual behaviors? Is too much of your time being sucked into the Internet? Does your ADHD seem to make everything in life harder? The list goes on, but the bottom line is this: If you feel that your life and/or behaviors are out-of-control, then you've got a problem. It’s as simple as that. I can help.

The people who call me for help are real people just like you. You exhaust yourself trying to cope with the stresses and strains of real life. You often feel overburdened, stressed out, and maybe even trapped. You try to stay positive about things, but your resources [emotional and financial] are likely stretched to the breaking point. Your relationships are struggling. It seems that the harder you try to make things work, the worse they seem to get. There's not enough time to do what needs done. Every moment you spend in therapy has to count.

Thanks for checking out my profile! The past few years have made all of us think more about who and what is important to us and how we want to live our lives. Perhaps you are facing a major life transition, struggling to feel connected in your relationships, or need help figuring out how to deal with an increasingly tough world. You might be overwhelmed by difficult thoughts, feelings or situations. You’ve tried everything you, your family or friends think will make things better, but it’s just not working. You are stuck and need help with getting unstuck.

I am currently accepting new clients ready for change! For folks who identify as LGBTQIA+ and/or those with sexual health concerns, finding support can feel particularly challenging. I use an intersectional feminist approach that focuses on strengths and making small, measurable goals for incremental change. Clients willing to read, journal, or listen to podcasts for additional support outside of sessions are also likely to be a good fit. Even if you're not ready for therapy just yet, please check out the resources listed on my website: katyjanousek.com. Emailing me or having a 15 minute video consultation is always free!

Life can often feel messy and chaotic. My passion is to help bring order out of chaos to facilitate growth and peace. Many of my clients present with concerns related to anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stressful life transitions and circumstances, perinatal mental health concerns, or they report feeling a little “off” and are seeking help to feel more like themselves again. I work best with clients who are engaged and motivated to see changes in their lives, and I have a great love for coming alongside people to help them move towards becoming the best version of themselves.

Infidelity Therapists

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
