I work individuals and couples to help build better relationships and coping strategies for times of conflict and change. Having worked for several years with substance abuse groups along with anger management and family violence intervention, I have helped people of all ages to move beyond the negative self talk and low self esteem in order to be successful and thriving in their personal lives and relationships with others. I also offer EMDR to address trauma. Because I believe there is not a single way to deal with life, I like to meet my clients where they are in their own lives and help them to accomplish their personal goals.

I have a passion for helping women and adolescents who are feeling angry, lost, alone, and frantic become calm, confident, and capable. I can relate, and I have been there. I want to help. I believe in therapy, because it has brought me healing and clarity in my own life. I want to help you experience growth, lasting change, and be able to trust yourself.

Many people don’t fully understand how much mental health plays a big role in your daily life. Adjustments in your life, i.e., the death of a loved one, job loss, separation, divorce, relationship issues, a diagnosis of chronic disease, or trauma can incite racing thoughts, anxiety, depression, or anger . As a solution-focused therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and help you reach your full potential.

Over-identification with a particular self or selves produces so much suffering in our lives, particularly when we can't live up to those unrealistic, idealized versions of who we think we should be. An inherent promise of the therapeutic relationship, however, is that it offers us the possibility of grace - the opportunity to be accepted and valued for the splendid mess that we are. This is why I strive in my practice to connect individuals with the "curious paradox" that Carl Rogers spoke of - namely, "when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."

My work with individuals, couples and in transformative workshops is to guide and support clients in reaching their goals through self-awareness, analysis, goal setting and strategies for life change. Those who come to me for guidance and support need to be heard, really listened to and understood. Sorting out the deeply seated issues that have gotten in the way of achieving peace and satisfaction in daily living takes great courage of which I am honored to be witness. My education has given me the data I need but my best teacher has been life....79 years of it.

Life can sometimes seem like just too much. Stressors like relationships, friendships, school, work, and family obligations can become too heavy to bear. Maybe there is a trauma you have carried for years that you still aren't quite sure how to handle. Maybe you are questioning aspects of your identity and you aren't sure where to turn to speak honestly about them. Or, maybe you just need someone to talk to who can help you process your daily life. That's where counseling can come in.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
