Hello! I'm Nicholas. As a graduate student therapist, my goal is to provide you with the time, space, respect, and consideration you need to feel safe, listened to, and accepted unconditionally. My approach to therapy is free of judgment, focused on empowerment, and informed by each client's identities and positionalities. Here, I want to acknowledge my own personal identities as a queer, white, cisgender man and to note that I build upon my training by attending to points of intersectionality, privilege, oppression, and social justice in my praxis; I believe all our unique life experiences are shaped by our multiple identities.

The path to a quality world can be intimidating for people. I understand how it can feel like it is one that you are on alone. My work with diverse groups: adolescents, people that identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples, and people with disabilities (PWDs) informs me of some of these challenges. My experience supporting clients in their path to wellness through anxiety, depression, trauma, disability acceptance, adoption/reunification, incarceration, personality disorders and relationship/intimacy challenges makes me confident in the progress we can achieve in counseling together.

Everyone has times in their lives when stress seems overwhelming, when ways that we use to cope just aren't working anymore, or are even making the situation worse. Even more so coming out of a pandemic. You might be sad, anxious, hurting yourself or isolating and want to change. My approach to counseling is relationship oriented with the goal of promoting resilience and autonomy for multicultural, cross generational communities that I serve.

Counseling provides a safe place for healing to occur. Children, teens and adults benefit from a private spot to sort out conflicting feelings, difficult life circumstances and relationship problems. Learning new ways of facing dilemmas present in everyday life produces energy. During therapy, many of my clients begin to experience an inner calm, increased self confidence and/or a clearer sense of self-concept, which in turn leads to a deeper sense of well being.

I am ready and willing to work with anyone who feels that they might need help regaining daily life functioning skills, coping with anxiety and depression, social and professional development, weight-loss coaching, parental coaching, and any other issues that may arise as we work together. The populations I served have primarily been older adolescents and young adults. Along with that, I have experience with children as young as nine years old and older adults. I have a strong interest in sports and performance psychology, but I am not limited to that particular practice area.

Hi. I am a Licensed Psychologist, with a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Detroit Mercy. While some of my clinical interests include anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, divorce/separation, family problems, professional/life transitions and financial stressors, I am also very involved in infertility/adoption/fostering, women’s issues, family planning difficulties, LGBTQIA+, immigration, cultural adjustment, and diversity related issues.

My belief is that therapy should be empowering and be tailored to each client individually. Every person is unique in their experiences and beliefs and for this reason I utilize an integrative approach to counseling. This means that we will use different techniques and ideas from different theories and therapies to best suite each client and their goals. Hi my name is Melinda Nafal. My passion for helping others began approximately 10 years ago. Starting in a small community and working with various populations, I have gradually built a strong clinical foundation primarily in trauma psychotherapy. With almost a decade of extensive clinical experience, I continue to help individuals who have struggled with life altering events that have left them with emotional pain and suffering. My treatment stems from a holistic approach. Combining methodologies from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy as well as natural health.
