I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 30 years of experience in the helping professions. I have worked with adolescents, young adults, and adults in various settings, including homes, prisons, outpatient programs, and schools. I treat a wide range of concerns such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, interpersonal issues, trauma, relationship issues, communication in couples, low self-esteem, life transitions, grief and loss, sex offenses, and suicidal ideation/self-harm. My compassionate, goal-oriented approach reflects my positive regard for my clients, person-centered philosophy, and collaborative style.
I hold a bachelor's degree in economic education, a master's in educational psychology, a master's in mental health counseling, and a Ph.D. in epidemiology. I use various therapeutic modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness, internal family systems, positive psychology, person-centered therapy, etc..
I believe everyone carries a "life backpack" of events, and I work with clients to explore this to find solutions for their present situations. I foster a multicultural environment to allow my clients the freedom to express themselves openly. Having experienced abandonment, neglect, and grief and loss in my own life, I naturally build empathy with people.
