Counseling involves a therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client that is based primarily on respect, empathy, and confidentiality. The issues can range from alcoholism and other drug misuse, growing up in an abusive home, poor self-esteem, work difficulties, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. You determine your needs and goals and my job is to provide and safe and trusting environment for you to explore your issues. The style of therapy and the treatment approaches used varies depending on your needs and issues and the particular problems that are areas of concern for you.
I may use different methods to deal with the problems that you present; i.e., cognitive behavioral therapy, active listening, mindfulness training, relaxation techniques, meditation, ACT, etc. I am also a registered yoga teacher, RYT-500.
I believe it is critical to see you as the unique individual that you are and to treat you with honesty, respect, and dignity in a confidential environment. I have worked in field of substance abuse since 1974 and have an excellent relationship with the AA, NA, and Al-Anon communities so that all resources can be utilized to support you in your recovery.
