My clinical interests include anxiety , mood disorders, grief, family of origin trauma, meaning, and shame.
There are many reasons that a person may seek counseling. Facing hardships in life can be very difficult, especially when trying to navigate them alone. Letting others into our pain and circumstances can be scary, but it can also be a time for immense growth. Therapy can provide both support and hope as a person works towards a greater sense of wholeness and healing.

My therapeutic approach is a casual one. I strive to make therapy something that feels comfortable for a client, more like a conversation with a friend than something clinical. My focus during sessions is always client-centered, as only the client can know what they need to get out of our time together and thus what they need to put in. I specialize in working with anxiety , depression and relationship issues but have experience in much more as well. I have a background in addiction counseling which has provided the foundation of skills necessary to be a truly empathetic, effective healer.

I help anxious, depressed, lonely, and trauma surviving adults & couples create hope, find healing, and discover connection. Adulting is hard. Your anxiety has anxiety . Your depression has depression. Maybe you feel alone…in a crowded room, even with friends or family…always alone. Maybe you feel hopeless, exhausted, like you can’t get out of bed, all the while, your mind won’t stop racing…"Am I good enough?” “Did I take out the trash?” “Does my partner love me?” “Will I pass this test?” “I don’t want to study for this test?” “Did I brush my teeth today?”…and on and on and on.

I am an EMDR therapist specializing in women who are impacted by trauma, anxiety , and eating disorders.
Your heart races, thoughts overwhelm your mind, feelings of insecurity hold you captive. Externally, you are accomplished, dependable, and seem to have it all together, but internally, you feel empty, anxious, and alone. You are unsure of your purpose in life. At times, memories of painful life experiences flood your mind, and it feels as though you are reliving the event all over again. Your nervous system feels like a revved engine consistently. Thoughts of the past bombard you, and you are worn out. You wonder if you are truly broken. You desire freedom but are afraid to trust people as you have been deeply hurt.

Are you feeling disconnected, numb, anxious, or depressed? You might feel misunderstood, like you're living in a fog, or have overwhelming anxiety . Many people feel this way after traumatic experiences. Imagine if you could start understanding the "why" behind your thoughts and feelings and learn the "how" you can get to a place of clarity and feeling in control. The clients I see want to shift the way they think and feel so that their past is not negatively affecting their present or future. My ideal clients are insightful, motivated, and ready to experience peace, healing, and even joy in their life.

Why consider counseling? Because nearly everyone at some time in their life is confronted with seemingly unresolvable personal or relationship issues, significant life changes like premarital needs, or death and crtical illness of a loved one. I am very experienced in counseling persons dealing with mood, anxiety and health related concerns. I believe in counseling as a process where clients are assisted in understanding and disarming feelings that "make no sense" and would be happy to help my clients explore the truth behind the troubling issues in a safe and confidential environment.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
