I am a clinical fellow of American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and some of my specialty areas include: Substance Addiction/Abuse - Certified DUI Treatment Provider in Polk County; Conduct Court-Ordered Drug Evaluations and Domestic Violence Evaluations; Marital Issues (Including communication and infidelity); Depression/ Anxiety ; and Spiritual Issues.
Since I have been doing counseling/therapy for 35+ years, I am very familiar with many approaches and theories. My first step in working with a person or couples is to help them express the goal(s) they wish to achieve in seeking counseling and then work with them to either discover the skills within themselves or help them develop these skills to reach these goals and live fulfilled lives.

I help people struggling with depression, anxiety , relationship difficulties, family conflict, low self esteem, and grief.
It is easy to feel anxious, depressed, have low self esteem, or grief. Maybe you are in a difficult relationship where your needs aren't being met, or are recovering from some form of infidelity. I believe healing can be found with self exploration, conversation and the support of a compassionate therapist. I work to make sure you feel safe to take time, breathe, feel free to process your thoughts (big or small), cry, shout, and laugh. It is through this process I hope you will find healing and strength.

Life is filled with many challenges. Sometimes the struggles feel like they are more than we can handle, and we just need an outside ear, some temporary professional support. No matter what the challenges, there is hope. Depression, anxiety , combat related leftovers, sexual or physical abuse, relationship troubles, parenting, affairs, grief and loss, infertility, stress. I enjoy working with adults who are interested in working through various concerns, such as stuck points, repeated problems in love or in themselves, that seem to persist. Helping teens that are dealing with low self-esteem, depressions, or anxiety is also a primary focus of my practice. My approach will allow you to explore your feelings and desires in depth in a environment that is safe and nonjudgmental. The outcomes vary, but many clients discover freedom from longstanding patterns of behavior or self-image. Others simply get free from needing perfection from themselves or others.

We’ll work together to recognize how you’re responding to stressors in your life and introduce new skills to ease your anxiety /depression.
Are you finding it hard to cope with stress? Uncomfortable with uncertainty? Is your worry interfering with your ability to concentrate, leading to avoidance & procrastination? Maybe you've spent hours scrolling through Psychology Today profiles but froze when it was time to choose one. A part of you would do anything to avoid calling to book this appointment. I get it. BUT, your untreated anxiety or depression interferes with too many areas of your life—making it harder at work and in relationships. You're isolating because it all feels exhausting and overwhelming. Change is usually a trigger for you, but this time you're ready.

In person or virtual sessions. Specializing in eating disorders, anxiety , and depression. I am also a Registered Dietitian (RD). It's my passion to help people gain control over and heal from disordered eating, anxiety , and depression so they can live their best life. We live in a society that dictates what size we should be, which drives us toward unhealthy habits in an effort to measure up. This can lead to disordered eating habits such as yo-yo dieting, binge eating, poor body image, and self-criticism, among others. I believe in focusing on the underlying causes of how food is being used to manage stress, emotions, and life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
