Let's be real....relationships are HARD! Is divorce on the horizon after discovering infidelity and/or
sex
addiction? Are you overwhelmed by relationship issues and seeking
sex therapy
to address them? Couples tend to seek marriage counseling/ couples therapy when the relationship feels impossible to fix. Improving communication, increasing sexual satisfaction and connection, repairing longstanding conflict, are all reasons people seek couples therapy. Whether it's been years of disconnect and low sexual desire, a decrease in connection due to parenting, or as a result of an affair these situations put couples at risk for separation

Want to improve your sexual relationship? Your couples relationship? Your relationship with yourself? We have so little guidance in these areas. This is unfortunate when there are simple ways to transform a sexual relationship into a truly intimate one, a couples relationship into a truly cooperative one, and a relationship with yourself into a deeply meaningful and lifelong adventure. As an AASECT-certified and Masters & Johnson-trained
sex
and relationship therapist, and as a depth oriented-trained psychologist, I can help with intensive couples therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and individual, meaning-oriented therapy.

I'M SORRY TO SAY I AM NOT ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS AT THIS TIME. Though I'm a broad-based counselor and psychotherapist, my primary focus is
sex therapy
and sexual/relational problems at all stages of life. Areas of expertise include sexual dysfunction (especially P.E., E.D. and orgasm difficulties, desire discrepancies), adolescent issues, paraphilias and out-of-control sexual behavior (a.k.a. "
sex
addiction," for which I support a "sexological" approach over an "addictionological" one). I also train medical & mental health professionals in
sex therapy
, as Co-Director of Modern
Sex Therapy
Institutes.

A rapidly growing area of my practice involves working with clients dealing with compulsive and deviant sexual behaviors, known as
sex
addiction.
My 30 years of sobriety coupled with my education and experience affords me a unique perspective counseling addicts and families. I trained at the Hanley Center and worked as the primary therapist in the men's unit there for 15 years. I left Hanley for private practice and also serve as clinical director of several South Florida drug and alcohol programs. My client-centered practice uses a variety of techniques to develop coping mechanisms, life skills and coaching to help addicts recognize their vulnerabilities, which lead to compulsive and addictive behaviors and the ensuing shame, depression and anxiety.

I specialize in trauma and women's health (pregnancy, prenatal and postpartum) but also have experience in; addiction, depression, anxiety and
sexuality

All too often, we find ourselves a bit lost, in need of validation, reassurance, or direction. It is my professional belief that seeking therapy is an empowering first step and the relationship between an individual and their therapist is of the utmost importance. Through my work, I strive to connect with my clients on a human level as many of us experience self-doubt, anxiety, and difficulty processing what life is throwing at us. My approach to therapy is integrative, working to empower the client to discover his or her own strengths and to act as a facilitator in an individual's growth and clarity.

Individuals who struggle with sexual addiction, and couples are my ideal clients. I work with couples and individuals struggling with sexual addictions & infidelity. The process of working together is like a puzzle; together we lay out all the pieces on the table, look at them together, first finding the corner pieces, and then complete the puzzle from the inside-out, until the last piece is in place. I started Fort Lauderdale Behavior Therapy so I can help individuals, couples and families who suffer from the life damaging, often devastating effects of infidelity,
sex
and porn addiction.

Sex Therapy
Who is sex therapy for?
Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.
Why do people need sex therapy?
Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.
What happens in sex therapy?
People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.
What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?
Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
