My ideal client is one that is motivated for change; one that recognizes that what they have been doing or trying to do is not working presently. My ideal client is willing to consider alternatives and open-minded to possibilities. They are seeking a therapist who is oriented toward relationships, those they have with themselves and others, and with the multiple systems, contexts, and cultures within which each client exists and functions.

Specialties include individual, group and family therapy for substance abuse and sex addicts and continuum of care therapy for post detox patients, those in residential treatment, intensive outpatient care and halfway house residents.
My 30 years of sobriety coupled with my education and experience affords me a unique perspective counseling addicts and families. I trained at the Hanley Center and worked as the primary therapist in the men's unit there for 15 years. I left Hanley for private practice and also serve as clinical director of several South Florida drug and alcohol programs. My client-centered practice uses a variety of techniques to develop coping mechanisms, life skills and coaching to help addicts recognize their vulnerabilities, which lead to compulsive and addictive behaviors and the ensuing shame, depression and anxiety.

Life gets busy, so I offer appointments through tele-health to meet the needs of you and your family .
“I don't even know where to start...” This is something clients often tell me when they begin their journey to self discovery. From feeling misunderstood and alone to connected and balanced, I work to understand your story, hear you without judgement and walk alongside you as you regain hope and achieve your goals. I recognize the difficulty that comes with acknowledging painful experiences and being vulnerable; the belief that strength is measured by the ability to manage challenges alone. I will meet you where you are to help you reach the goal you have in mind while challenge limiting beliefs that hold you back from your dreams.

I also specialize in men struggling with career and family issues and in couples for help with communication, conflict resolution, and intimacy.
I love what I do. My "brand" is creating the best therapeutic relationship I can with each client. I believe in connecting on a human level and prefer sessions to be conversational while still maintaining professionalism. I am non-judgmental and truly care. Our partnership will provide a strong foundation so you can gain self awareness, acquire self insight, and understand yourself in relation to others. You will learn relationship skills, communication skills, and conflict resolution. Most of my clients I work with are struggling with the "stuff of life" - career quandaries, relationships, mood management, anxiety, etc.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
