I have experience in working with clients coping with grief and loss (including pet bereavement), LGBTQ+ clients, clients diagnosed with terminal illness, self-esteem issues, helping clients with setting healthy boundaries, caregiver stress, stress related to aging, life transitions, relationship counseling, adjustment disorders, depression, and anxiety.
Life can be overwhelming at times. There are often moments of despair and feelings that others simply just don't "get it". Whether you are dealing with grief and loss or navigating situations or relationships that are increasing your anxiety or negatively impacting your self-esteem, I can assist you by helping you first identify strengths and then help you face challenges head-on, at your own pace. In my practice I partner with my clients to reach their goals through open, non-judgmental counseling. Deciding to begin therapy can be a bit scary at times, but you can be proud of yourself for taking the first step!

I offer a warm, inclusive space for individual adults, couples, and parents—including those in the LGBTQIA+ community and multicultural populations.
Let’s be honest, life is chaotic, messy, and occasionally feels like a group project where no one else is doing their part, including your brain. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, burned out, frustrated with your relationships (or all of the above), you’re not alone and you don’t have to figure it out on your own. Therapy with me is a collaborative process. You’re the expert in your life, I’m just here with curiosity, tools, and enough gentle challenge to help you grow. My approach blends insight, compassion and evidence-based methods to tailor therapy to your individual personality and values.

Taking that first step to meet a counselor shows courage and strength, even when you might be feeling anything but that. I work hard to make sure you are comfortable in the counseling process. Together, we set therapeutic goals specific to your needs and develop a flexible treatment approach based on your strengths and resources. My work with couples uses Gottman Relationship Therapy, which has proven highly effective. Research-based, it focuses on teaching couples tools and techniques to build a fuller, happier long-term relationship. I welcome individuals, couples and families, and work with pre-teens to seniors.

Do you regularly find that the demands in your life make you feel caught - or hooked - in imperfect situations? Do you want to improve the relationships in your life? Improve your physical and mental health and develop meaningful relationships with your family. Most of us do, but sometimes, our day-to-day actions don't align with these intentions and goals. Rather than remaining trapped by your circumstances, patterns and thoughts, isn't it time to move forward and take action?

As your therapist and advocate, it is our goal to assist in navigating through life’s daily challenges. Picture being in a world where you didn’t have to travel alone. A world where you can feel safe and without judgment. Although stressors are inevitable, imagine changing your cognitions in order to handle the worlds sometime unfair yet intrinsic problems. Remember, you have not reached and impasse.

Welcome, This probably isn’t the first step you’ve taken on the path towards your own self-actualization. Often, we get really good at getting by and solving the problem on our own. Sometimes we figure it out, and other times we don’t. Or it works for a while, until we hit a new phase. Or maybe, it’s just too difficult to do the dishes when the world is on fire. I see that you’ve been trying, and I see that life is fucking hard. You may not have reached out to someone before now because a safe space wasn't available. You may have felt outcasted, or othered, or morally wrong for feeling what you're feeling.

My main areas of passion include self-esteem development, LGBTQIA+ and intersectionality issues, anxiety management, and inner growth work.
It's true that our Comfort Zone is a wonderful place that keeps us safe...but growth cannot occur there. My ideal client is willing to work on finding the strength within themselves to step outside of their Comfort Zone to begin to create small changes that add up to big changes in their emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. My focus with my clients is always progress over perfection and to build self-love and self-compassion above all. I enjoy taking a direct yet compassionate approach, utilizing humor, education, and the power that already exists within us.

We cannot change past chapters of our lives. Where we can take power is now, and the future chapters we have yet to write. If we don't address something unhealthy, every aspect of life can become impacted negatively. Whether you are wanting to learn to manage mental health symptoms, begin the transitioning process, seeking help for everyday concerns like relationship issues, job stress or self-doubt, or experiencing difficult times such as divorce and loss, things can improve. I assure you the strength and ability you will use is already residing in you.

You've built the life and achieved what you set out to achieve. Somethings are still unresolved, bothersome irritants. Relationships are complicated in ways that aren't resolving with obvious solutions. People around you are expressing opinions about who you are that may not be accurate. You're capable of enormous clarity about everything except these things. I work with people whose lives are genuinely complex. I bring decades of experience with the full range of human circumstances to our conversations. Together, we can identify the stuck places, and develop strategies for getting things flowing more smoothly.

I specialize in treatment of Trauma/Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, and LGBTQIA issues.
If your goal is to overcome the negative effects of trauma on your life and relationships, I may be the therapist for you. I believe that we can best heal and grow through emotional intelligence, self-mastery, and understanding of how our cultural background and life circumstances have impacted our life outlook. I have helped many people over the years establish a stronger sense of self-esteem and life direction.

LGBTQ+ Therapists
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
