Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or anxious? I believe mental health is about living in the present, healing the past and identifying and moving forward. Many of the clients I see are facing a dilemma of some sort; a potential marriage, divorce, re-marriage, change in career, a family member dying, self-harm issues, substance use issues, anxiety, depression, psychosis, a current trauma, or a past trauma that has re-surfaced.

I believe the purpose of therapy is to enhance your quality of life. Sometimes that means addressing a particular crisis or period of emotional distress. Other times, it may be more about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships, and past experiences. No matter the circumstances that bring you in, good therapy will provide you the space and tools to better understanding your personal values and goals. This understanding allows you to make choices and act in ways that are consistent with what is important to you, ensuring a life that feels meaningful and satisfying.

Professionally, I served eight years in the Navy. During that time, I co-facilitated group therapy in a military substance abuse rehabilitation program. As a veteran I fully understand the military life and complexities serving as active duty may bring. I went on to continue my education at the University of South Florida - GO Bulls! I thoroughly enjoy doing couples work! All relationships have challenges AND strengths. By providing a neutral space, I would love to help you and your partner build effective communication skills and work through any past hurts.

I remember the first time I decided to seek therapy. I remember the mixed emotions of anxiety, fear, being overwhelmed, not knowing what to look for, or where to go. It can be especially hard if you identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+. You can rest assured that all of those feelings are valid and normal. Don't let fear prevent you from reaching out for help with the issues you are going through. I am here to hold space for you and offer a supportive, unbiased, non-judgmental environment. I will stand by you on your healing journey as your guide. You don’t have to go through this alone.

"What lies behind us, and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us". - Ralph Waldo Emerson. Life is a journey full of beauty and unexpected challenges. It is at these difficult times when we may need additional support; someone to walk beside us along our journey and help us find that beauty of life again.

I strive to deliver compassionate counseling with sincere dedication to service, and to do so as efficiently as possible in order to help alleviate stress and anxiety, and encourage emotional independence. My practice is rooted in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). REBT, the pioneering form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), is a goal-oriented therapeutic approach that helps people to challenge and replace self-defeating beliefs with healthier alternatives. REBT is generally shorter-term, solution-focused, and present-centered which makes it an amazing choice for those who not only wish to FEEL better, but to GET better.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois and Florida. My diverse clinical background allows me to work with a wide array of challenges that often bring patients to therapy. My approach to therapy is always grounded in evidenced-based practices. Because every patient is different, one approach does not work the same for everyone. I spend time getting to know my patients and understanding how they see the world, themselves, and others. Breaking unhealthy patterns, improving coping skills, and developing stronger interpersonal skills are a big part of my work with patients.

Anyone can become addicted to prescription medication! This means you! Prescription medication has become the most abused drug of this decade and it's legal! In fact, many do not believe they will become addicted because they lack knowledge necessary to understand their devastating, addictive properties. You go to the doctor, he prescribes pills, you need more, doctor says no, you get scared because you don't want to be "dope sick." It becomes too expensive, you become desperate, so you switch to heroin because it is cheaper.
Does any part of this speak to you? If so, call me!

Hello! My name is Susan Lane and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 25 years of experience in the field. Since I have been practicing for many years, I personally have ventured into studying spiritual practices to help others who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, loss, grief, etc. As a result, I have studied meditation, shamanic practices, law of attraction, etc. and feel that connecting to a higher power and getting in-tune with your spiritual core can assist in many struggles we face. I'm very proactive in your healing and I guide you by setting goals and achieving them with you.

Accepting New Patients! (11/1/2022). I love helping people see new possibilities and opportunities in their life when previously they had faced difficulties, either in their external world or their internal world. I think it is incredibly meaningful to be able to support a client or a family in the process of trying new approaches to what had previously seemed to be an "impossible" situation. I also love learning about how to make our brains "work" better in our relationships, families, schools, workplaces, and other important social areas!
