Life can be unpredictable, demanding, full of adjustments, and trials. Regardless of the life challenges you may be facing there is always hope. Hope gives us the strength and desire to change, grow, and become whole again once we've faced difficult challenges. I believe each individual is unique and holds the keys to his/her own healing. Yet, sometimes we may need someone to work beside us to recognize what we already know and to help us to begin the steps necessary to achieve change. I am here to join with you in your journey toward overcoming depression, anxiety, adjustment issues or other challenges you may be facing.

Many people who come to therapy understand things logically, yet their reactions feel stronger than they want them to be. You might notice yourself getting emotionally triggered, repeating patterns in relationships, or feeling overwhelmed even when part of you knows things should be manageable. Often this happens because past experiences continue to influence how we respond today. I work with individuals and couples to understand these patterns and develop healthier ways of responding. Many people I work with are navigating life transitions, including midlife, when emotions and relationship patterns can feel very intense.

You set big goals for your life and are often successful, but somehow you still feel like you aren’t good enough. You often compare yourself to people around you or on social media and end up feeling like you can’t keep up. You often agree to things you don't want to do or don't have the time to do. You worry constantly, overthink things, and question yourself often. When you sit still, you notice your mind racing and you don’t feel calm. You may notice guilt or shame. This discomfort can impact many areas of your life including your relationships, sleep, and overall wellbeing.

In therapy, we get to understand our individual stories and work towards writing the future we envision for ourselves. I recognize that each person has a unique perception of the world and these differences should be embraced in a supportive and judgement free environment. In my therapeutic practice, I use cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing techniques in conjunction with solution focused interventions to problem solve solutions to develop practical and individualized coping strategies for depression, anxiety, substance use, and other severe and persistent mental health issues.

Many women reach a point where the ways they’ve learned to cope, achieve, caretake, or stay in control no longer feel sustainable. I work with adult women navigating anxiety, trauma, perfectionism, burnout, self-worth, relationship challenges, life transitions, spirituality, and the desire for deeper authenticity and connection to self. I also specialize in eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns, though many clients simply seek a more holistic, grounded, and meaningful approach to healing, embodiment, and personal growth.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
