Anxiety, grief, and trauma can suffocate our lives, keeping us from experiencing the fullness and beauty all around us. Sometimes, we’re able to put on a brave face, despite our pain, to try to show the outside world that we are okay. Sometimes, we fall apart and just can't seem to put ourselves back together. No matter where you are in your healing journey, the good news is that therapy works, and there are several evidence-based therapy methods proven to help you feel better and guide your healing journey. There is hope, purpose, love, and joy on the other side of your pain. Together, we will work to find that peace for you.

hat drew me to a career in therapy was a deep desire to support women carrying the invisible weight of trauma, emotional wounds, and survival. I exclusively work with women ages 30 and older navigating Complex PTSD, childhood trauma, emotional neglect, abusive relationships, complicated relationships with parents, family dysfunction, and generational trauma. Many women I work with have spent years in survival mode—people-pleasing, emotionally overwhelmed, hypervigilant, disconnected from themselves, and struggling with deep feelings of shame or unworthiness rooted in early experiences.

If life has felt heavy lately—whether it’s anxiety, trauma, grief, burnout, or just constantly feeling “on” all the time—you’re not alone. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Tampa specializing in EMDR therapy, trauma, and grief, and I help people who are tired of just surviving finally start feeling like themselves again. A lot of the people I work with look like they’re holding it together on the outside, but inside they feel overwhelmed, exhausted, disconnected, or stuck in patterns they can’t seem to get out of. Sometimes your mind knows you’re safe, but your body still feels anxious, guarded, or constantly stressed.

My career began with survivors of sexual assault, an area that quickly sparked a passion for trauma.
Trauma shows up in all shapes and sizes—maybe from one life-altering event or years of buildup. If left unprocessed, it can quietly (or not-so-quietly) wreak havoc on your life. You might feel irritable, on edge, anxious for no clear reason, or just…off. If you're experiencing feelings or emotions that don't seem to match the situation, it could be your mind and body’s way of saying it’s time to heal. Trauma doesn’t just stay in the past—it affects relationships, work, and self-perception. The good news? You don’t have to carry it alone. Therapy can help you process and heal in a safe environment.

I am a trauma specialist that utilizes a trauma informed approach in working with individuals 18 and up. Most of my clients identify as high-functioning/high-achieving individuals with histories of childhood trauma, lifelong people pleasing, church hurt, and/or impactful events (experiences that changed the way they saw themselves, people in their life, and the world around them). We focus on reframing core beliefs that have impacted client views of themselves and the world around them that impact emotions, mental health, and relationships.

Sometimes we reach a point in our lives where we just want to feel better. The stress of daily life combined with the complications of relationships and our own histories can make it difficult to feel connected, whole, and peaceful. When we experience trauma and/or ongoing stress in life we develop habits, beliefs, and cycles that sometimes cease to serve us any longer.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
