It's just plain wrong that so many people struggle to be accepting, empathic, and warm toward you. It's their job to do this stuff, right? You may ask why does my therapist struggle to relate to me? Why does my therapist not appreciate the depth of my suffering? Why do I wonder if they truly understand me on a deep level? Your trust is earned not given. You make your own choices about what you do and how you live your life. No one knows more about your life than you do. You don't have to do this alone. I'm here to work with you. I'm here to be a guide with you on the journey and to share my experience as a gay psychologist.

I am a complex trauma specialist & EMDR Certified Therapist, trained in IFS. I help trauma survivors to heal brilliantly & unapologetically & to feel at home in their bodies. My healing style is somatic & some of my work looks like helping folx to breathe, to listen deeply to their whole selves & to develop more fluency with their hearts & bodies. I believe the best therapy will always invite your fullness into the room & that by working in the body & attuning toward our full selves we step into our healing. My approach is trauma-informed, anti-racist, queer / trans -affirming, neurodivergent affirming, fat/body positive & liberatory.

I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA + community & have lived experience as a queer person. My main focus is providing a safe, empathic environment for you to truly explore yourself and every facet of your experience. This includes exploring sources of pain and hurt, as well as celebrating sources of hope and joy. I am very passionate about LGBTQ +, sexuality and sexual-related concerns.
As with many other things in life, I am a firm believer that there is a “no one size fits all approach" in counseling. What this looks like in therapy is working collaboratively with you, using an integrative approach that is tailored to best fit your needs. I use theoretical approaches that fit with both your personality and presenting issues in counseling; primarily utilizing solution-focused and client-centered approaches, specifically focusing on strengths. It is always my hope to create a safe and comfortable space where growth can flourish.

I have conducted 200+ presentations ( LGBTQ , diversity and inclusion, hypnosis, anti- LGBTQ bullying, and suicide prevention training in hospital settings).
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois and Florida. My diverse clinical background allows me to work with a wide array of challenges that often bring patients to therapy. My approach to therapy is always grounded in evidenced-based practices. Because every patient is different, one approach does not work the same for everyone. I spend time getting to know my patients and understanding how they see the world, themselves, and others. Breaking unhealthy patterns, improving coping skills, and developing stronger interpersonal skills are a big part of my work with patients.

I also specialize in LGBTQ + issues and family.
My goal is to help you discover your true potential and unique purpose while focusing on your wellbeing and personal growth. Negative thinking, behaviors and habits can prevent you from living and truly celebrating your life and enjoyment. Often self-limiting thinking styles and emotions can result from our past history or current situations. You can overcome these obstacles, develop the qualities, and skills needed to be the best version of you possible. Life hands us tremendous challenges. But our history doesn’t have to be our destiny! Tomorrow can be better and brighter.

As a Millennial in modern day America, I understand that the struggle is real. Most are no stranger to the discomfort, pressure, and sky high expectations that come with living in today’s society. My passions are centered around working with individuals to navigate these changing times. I pride myself on creating safe and affirming spaces for those who identify under the LGBTQIA + Umbrella; and having lived experience as a queer woman myself, I deeply understand sexual orientation struggles. Other specialities include: co-dependency, boundary setting, career changes, anxiety, & negative self talk; I am eager to help with it all.

As an integrative therapist, I approach treatment from a multi-dimensional, non-judgmental perspective. I believe in allowing the client to guide as they best know the issues they face daily, as well as what has/has not worked in the past. The office provides clients an atmosphere of acceptance and safety, knowing they are meeting with a qualified professional who is interested in helping them become the best they can be, with care and compassion in a collaborative relationship where personal growth is the priority. I offer online therapy for those who prefer it. Our office is a Safe Zone for LGBTQ . We also offer online counseling.

I also specialize in working with the LGBTQIA + community including transgender individuals.
I like to have a collaborative approach with clients and set realistic goals that work well with that client’s lifestyle, schedule, and skill set. I trust that each individual client is the expert on their own life and I aim to make each person feel comfortable enough to tell me what they do and do not need to create the most successful and attainable goals possible. I am flexible and encourage clients to tell me if a goal needs to be adjusted or changed completely. I trust that clients want to put in the work to feel happier and healthier which is why I believe it necessary to create space for them to do so.

How can I find a therapist in Tampa?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
