Specializing in trauma, grief and loss, children and adolescent counseling (adoption, youth development, and attachment), self-esteem, internal conflict, life transitions, and anxiety disorders.
We all experience life walking in different shoes and no one experience is the same. My experience as a therapist has been spent helping others believe in the power of self-motivation and healing through relationships. For 18+ years working with children and families, I have gained value in connecting with others and encouraging individuals to see the beauty in human kindness and connectedness. Working together to create safety, promote strength, and heal from life’s biggest hardships. We all have the internal strength and resources to heal from trauma experiences when guided and supported. I hope to be that support to you.

Welcome! I specialize in working with children and teenagers in Tampa, FL. Things like behavior problems, stress, anxiety and difficulty with school can be signs that a child or teen is experiencing something particularly difficult. They may struggle to explain what they are feeling, or not know how to ask for help from the people around them. My job is to support children, teens and their families by helping them better manage their emotions and behavior in a way that is authentic to them. Whether you are a parent trying to help your child, or a teen looking for a safe place to figure things out, therapy is a great place to start.

My experiences range from pre- adolescent through adulthood and am able to work with families, couples and individuals.
In counseling, I believe in meeting my clients where they are and helping them achieve the goals they set for themselves. I want my clients to realize the decisions they make have consequences, good and bad, and like to assist them to remain accountable for their decisions. It is important for me to look at the client as a whole, to help determine the course of treatment that will suit them best. I look forward to helping you reach your goals.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
