I bring with me more than 15 years of working with children, adolescents and adults and a specialization in
trauma
related psychological services.
My approach focuses on discovering "what happened to you" rather than "what is wrong with you", so that we can address the unique and changing ways that
trauma
continues to interfere with your current life. For some individuals, the
trauma
may be a single incident with specific triggers and associated symptoms. For others, the
trauma
may have occurred on numerous occasions with less specific triggers and a complex group of symptoms that have been treated unsuccessfully creating diagnostic uncertainty.

Sometimes we can navigate stress,
trauma
, and grief on our own, but there are times we need the guidance of a therapist to deal with the emotional pain, fear, confusion, and lingering effects of it.
Are you distracted by something so difficult or complicated that it interferes with you getting things done? Does it keep you from experiencing peace, joy, and purpose? When we experience stress,
trauma
, or grief, it is not uncommon for our lives to quickly unravel. If you need help unpacking and processing your experiences, or if you need help with motivation and direction, I can help. By finding better balance, you can gain control of your life, so you can achieve stronger self-awareness and more meaningful relationships.

Trauma
can leave us feeling like we have no control over the details of our lives and can make us feel unsafe, anxious, and many other emotions that make daily functioning harder. An essential part of trying to heal is learning the tools that can help us develop coping skills and techniques to navigate through life. I truly believe everyone deserves to control their own narrative, so as a counselor my goal is to help clients tell their own story and to have a safe space to speak freely without judgment.

I am a
trauma
specialist that utilizes a
trauma
informed approach in working with individuals 18 and up. In therapy we focus on reframing core beliefs that have impacted client views of themselves and the world around them that impact emotions, mental health, and relationships. I have worked in inpatient and outpatient care for substance dependency challenges,
trauma
, and transitional challenges. It is an honor to sit with individuals in their stories and to see the progress they make when their beliefs about themselves change. I know you are worthy of therapy and worthy of the work! It would be an honor to help you see it too.

As an eclectic therapist, I integrate a variety of techniques that are appropriate for meeting the unique needs of my diverse clients. I enjoy supporting individuals in their effort to heal and live more relaxed, well-rounded, and happy lives. I believe in maintaining a non-coercive and non-judgmental attitude, and I see the therapy room as a laboratory where we can examine and dissect issues with curiosity. This allows for open exploration of the self and an opportunity to navigate through challenges in a safe emotional space. Send me an email or give me a call to determine if we might be a good fit.

You are aware that you struggle to trust others and have seen how this impacts your relationships. You often wonder if you are good enough. Your history has impacted you in such a way that building walls is an automatic response to create a sense of safety. Experiencing
trauma
causes us to react in ways that allows us to survive, but those same strategies can be detrimental once the
trauma
has ended. I am here to help you process the
trauma
you have experienced and gain skills to demonstrate self-compassion, self-love, and self-acceptance.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
