Your relationship doesn’t feel the way you wish it did. Yes, you love each other, but it seems like you fight more often than you don’t these days. Neither of you feels like the other is listening, and you then get caught in cycles you can’t seem to break. Maybe it’s big stuff you’re disagreeing about—money, sex, or parenting —or something seemingly trivial that keeps tripping you up. Or perhaps the relationship you’re struggling with isn’t the one with your partner, but a parent or sibling. Whatever it is you’re facing, you both believe reconnection & repair is possible, and you’re ready to get the support you need to do that.

Welcome! I work with children and teenagers in Tampa, Florida. Things like behavior problems, stress, anxiety and difficulty with school can be signs that a child or teen is experiencing something particularly difficult. They may struggle to explain what they are feeling, or not know how to ask for help from the people around them. My job is to support children, teens and their families by helping them better manage their emotions and behavior in a way that is authentic to them. Whether you are a parent trying to help your child, or a teen looking for a safe place to figure things out, therapy is a great place to start.

Ever felt anxious or worried about going to a therapy appointment? Personal growth and the processing of issues can be hard work but it can also be fun and enjoyable. I use psychodrama, art therapy, and relaxation techniques to help people reach their goals. I don't believe in the medical model of illness, rather that everyone has challenges in life. The goal of therapy is to create positive emotional and behavioral changes to achieve optimum quality of life. You’re supposed to be an expert in your field, but you certainly don’t feel like it. You try your hardest, but you still feel like an imposter. The worst part? You just know others can see right through the pretending despite your efforts to maintain the appearance that everything is just fine. The voice in your head tells you how you’re not enough. You look through Instagram and wonder how everyone else has it together. You’re juggling too many projects because you can’t say “No.” You know you need help but aren’t sure where to begin. You wish you could find a way to just relax, let go of the worry, and embrace the present moment

You are aware that you struggle to trust others and have seen how this impacts your relationships. You often wonder if you are good enough. Your history has impacted you in such a way that building walls is an automatic response to create a sense of safety. Experiencing trauma causes us to react in ways that allows us to survive, but those same strategies can be detrimental once the trauma has ended. I am here to help you process the trauma you have experienced and gain skills to demonstrate self-compassion, self-love, and self-acceptance.

If you are going through some tough times, it can feel that nothing or no one can help. The feelings of uncertainty may even be overwhelming. You may find yourself wondering how to help yourself or your loved one. I understand these struggles and have many years of experience working with individuals, young or the young at heart. Reaching out to a counselor to receive therapeutic services can help you heal, achieve your goals to (re)discover your own authenticity, and can improve your overall wellness.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
