I have extensive experience with mood disorders, trauma and addictions and work with all ages. I am trained in EMDR and use that technique with both children and adults if appropriate. My clients often state when they first spoke to me they felt immediately at ease and did not feel judged. I am able to assist my clients in seeing patterns in their life story and work to identify and change core beliefs such as "I'm not good enough", "I'm defective" or "I cannot trust others."

As a therapist for ten years, I have helped people with depression, anxiety, stress management, substance use, goal setting and communication.
Sometimes, life is going well. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and all the pieces seem to be in place. Sometimes, life throws us curve balls, or digs up things we thought were long buried and we slide down from our peaks. Life is about learning how to navigate the peaks and valleys that will inevitably come our way and hopefully, finding some enjoyment on the journey. Whether you find yourself looking to maximize your peak, get yourself out of a valley, or move beyond a plateau that has grown stale, I'd love to help. I am currently offering virtual morning sessions and have some flexibility for in person sessions.

I'm trained in EMDR, CBT, and DBT, and I specialize in co-occurring concerns — often viewing substance use as a response to deeper pain, not the problem itself.
Most people don't come to therapy because everything is going well. They come because something feels stuck — addiction, burnout, anxiety, an old wound that won't quit, a relationship pattern they keep repeating. I'm Connor, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Master Certified Addiction Professional with 10+ years helping people work through what's underneath. I specialize in addiction recovery, trauma (EMDR-trained), men's issues, codependency, and emotional regulation — the spaces where shame, exhaustion, and old coping patterns live. My approach is honest, grounded, and collaborative. We'll do real work, at your pace.

Up front, I'm not the therapist for everyone. I don't have a flowery sales pitch about self-fulfillment and safe spaces, I'll probably be wearing an old t-shirt and jeans, I encourage expressive profanity, and I have more tattoos than your average therapist. Most of my caseload is trauma and PTSD. Much of the trauma work involves complex trauma with co-occurring dissociation, personality disorders, substance abuse, and anger. My work with trauma clients includes adult and adolescent survivors of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, both active duty and retired military personnel, and first responders.

I have more than 30 years of experience with the 12-Step approach to recovery, which has given me deep empathy for those struggling with addiction. My personal journey has fueled a strong passion to help others find hope and healing. While the 12-Step program is valuable, I understand that recovery is not the same for everyone, and different approaches may be needed. I served 20 years in the United States Air Force and supported Operation Enduring Freedom. As a veteran, I care deeply about issues affecting veterans and remain committed to helping those, especially veterans, who are working to overcome addiction.

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
