No matter how you are feeling, know that there is someone out here to support you, don't lose hope. I believe that we all have the innate ability to be well, regardless of race, sexual orientation or gender identification. Traumatic and challenging experiences in our lifes, can affect our nervous system, rendering us vulnerable, confused and at times stuck/frozen in fight and or flight responses to life. It would be an honor to assist you at recognizing and reclaiming your strength and true potential through gentle, mindful and regulated interventions that provide balance and peace.

I find using both top-down treatments (such as CBT & DBT) along with bottom-up approaches (like EMDR, IFS, & Gestalt) provide a more holistic form of healing in trauma work.
Life in itself is challenging; let me help you learn how to face these moments with strength and love. As humans, we tend to struggle with how to handle adversity and often forget our own resiliency and ability to adapt. "We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty"- Maya Angelou.

I believe that every person can find solutions to their problems and feel a renewed sense of joy and meaning in their lives. I use many approaches that are tailored to your individual symptoms, needs, and goals. However, the goal is always to improve your life in the here and now, to build the life you want. My clients face problems that appear impossible to overcome or live through, whether it is addiction, personality problems, the impact of trauma, or feeling haunted by and stuck in patterns from the past.

I became a Marriage and Family Therapist because I enjoy processing with individuals and listening to personal journeys to find a resolution. I was a High School performance art major and find this skill set benefical in providing supports through visual cues using various therapeutic approaches and modalities. I specialize in working with children and families in child welfare. I enjoy working with young children and teens as these are challenging developmental years, trauma and distress from systemic and familial patterns of behaviors, coupled with low parenting, coping, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Are you tired of feeling as though you are not in charge of what’s happening in your life…that everything that happens is controlled by someone or something else? I’m Dr. Michael Sue Jenefsky, and I am here to help you overcome emotional pain, reclaim your power, and live life on your own terms. Trauma informs how we relate in the world and can be complex, confusing, and painful with multiple layers. Coping or trying to cope with trauma is challenging, interfering with what most consider "normal life activities." Its hard to explain to others who do not understand and who have never experienced something that "rocked" their world in a disturbing, sometimes literally life threatening way. When there has been any degree of trauma, what was is no longer and what is frightens, disorients us. Behaviors, thinking, feelings change in the shadow of trauma. There is help available and you are not alone. Recovery is possible.

You're exhausted, not because of your present. It's a culmination of overextending, wearing the mask for all while hiding yourself until the end of the day. You’ve spent years being the strong one—caring for everyone else while feeling unseen or emotionally drained. You’re ready to find balance, peace, and purpose again. Together, we’ll explore patterns shaped by trauma, anxiety, or burnout and rebuild self-trust. At GAP Connections, I’ll help you heal through W.H.E.N—Wholeness, Humility, Enlightened Navigation—so you can set boundaries without guilt, reconnect with yourself, and move from merely surviving to truly living.

Sometimes, life is going well. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and all the pieces seem to be in place. Sometimes, life throws us curve balls, or digs up things we thought were long buried and we slide down from our peaks. Life is about learning how to navigate the peaks and valleys that will inevitably come our way and hopefully, finding some enjoyment on the journey. Whether you find yourself looking to maximize your peak, get yourself out of a valley, or move beyond a plateau that has grown stale, I'd love to help. I am currently offering virtual sessions Monday-Thursday at 10am, 11am, and 12pm.

As a queer person, you have to navigate a world that doesn’t always feel safe or supportive. That means you have to keep it all together, even when things feel like they’re falling apart. Life hasn’t been easy. You’ve experienced trauma, rejection, and relationships that left deep emotional marks. Now, you second-guess yourself, carry guilt that isn’t yours, and feel like your emotions are “too much.” You want to feel connected – to yourself and to others – but instead, you feel stuck, overwhelmed, and isolated. You’re not asking for the world – just some peace, clarity, and the freedom to be yourself without fear or apology.

Gestalt Therapists
What is gestalt therapy?
Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?
Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?
Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
