As a clinician, I strongly believe that each individual is their own expert. When things become complicated, it is often hard to put ourselves in the driver’s seat and take control. Through practice, I hope to help you find that strength within to overcome some of life’s most difficult challenges. My interest in mental health peaked after college, when I worked with a therapeutic recreational program for children. Witnessing others find and develop their own strengths, I saw how empowering this can be, motivating me to continue to be an agent for change.

My ideal client is seeking a therapist who can provide trauma-informed support, help them manage their anxiety and depression, and guide them on their journey towards healing and self-empowerment. They want a therapist who can offer validation, understanding, and practical tools to navigate the complexities of their trauma and mental health challenges. Their ultimate desire is to regain a sense of control, resilience, and fulfillment in their life.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and exhausted? Do you feel stuck in patterns that keep repeating, allowing you not to move forward? Are you drained because of disagreements and not able to be heard? Are you interested in healing problems with your behaviors? Combat issues like self-sabotage & allow you to learn how to react and respond to individuals in your family, community, & work environments. The ideal client comes to therapy, is consistent, and is ready to do the work and heavy lifting. A person who understands how important it is to process areas in their life that are no longer healthy and need to be addressed.

Life can be challenging. We all have times when our mental health may need some attention. When you feel overwhelmed, it's difficult to function well. Talking about what's going on and identifying the ways you react to these challenges can be helpful in empowering you to tap into your personal strength. It's there and we can reconnect you to it. Feeling and functioning better is possible and this is one of the many ways I can help. I assist in identifying unhealthy thought patterns that influence our emotions and behavior patterns and vice versa. We can feel stuck and it's hard to change.

I have enjoyed working with children and teens for 35 years as a School Psychologist, assisting with academic, behavioral, social and cognitive concerns, as well as completing psychoeducational evaluations. I developed a passion for helping children and adolescents who were experiencing anxiety and depression, so I became a Licensed School Psychologist so that I could shift my focus to providing individual therapy for youths struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and emotional dysregulation.

Life in itself is challenging; let me help you learn how to face these moments with strength and love. As humans, we tend to struggle with how to handle adversity and often forget our own resiliency and ability to adapt. Hi there. I’m Danica. Have you struggled to trust others throughout your life because something always seems to go wrong in relationships, leaving you feeling hurt, betrayed, or psychologically/emotionally drained? Is it hard to see your way to stable happiness without feeling like the other shoe will drop? Feeling fearful of relationships, lonely, anxious and depressed while others seem to be living their lives with little effort can be disheartening.

Waitlist for new clients
Our thoughts, emotions, and sensations aren't just experienced in our minds; they are experienced in our bodies. When we become disconnected from our emotions and sensations due to things like stress, trauma, or shame, it can leave us feeling "stuck" and unable to truly thrive. The weight of our past experiences can make it difficult to move forward in life. I help clients strengthen their mind-body connection and tap into their own inner knowing to facilitate meaningful change and healing.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
