I enjoy meeting with individuals and couples concerning a variety of issues to improve their relationships and overall well-being. Most of my clients present with anxiety , stress, depression, relationship issues, substance use/abuse and/or grief (I also work with other issues as listed in my profile). Although I utilize an integrative approach, using multiple counseling theories, I view them all through a Christian lens to discern only what aligns with biblical truth. My passion is to determine what will best address your needs based on your personal concerns, circumstances, and challenges.

My training and background would most benefit are those experiencing difficulty in their relationships with their children, parents, spouses, co-workers or other significant people in their lives; those whose anxiety or depression is holding them back, and those who are willing to work to reach their true potential.

I have diverse experience, including binge eating disorder, grief, depression, anxiety , LGBTQ+, self-esteem, OCD, ADHD, adjusting to college, sexual violence, relationship conflicts, and more.
When your life feels overwhelming, uncertain, or out of control, you may not feel like yourself. Everyday tasks seem a little harder, you may feel more impatient or sensitive, and your mind seems to focus on the wrong things. My goal is to help you navigate through these challenges in a safe and non-judgmental space so you may live a more balanced, authentic, and peaceful life. I believe that what you do in-between counseling sessions is more important than what we discuss during appointments.

One of my favorite quotes is "sometimes, when you are in a dark place, you think you've been buried, but you've actually been planted". Emotional pain can be so overwhelming that we feel unable to get out of the dark places by ourselves. Trying to navigate trauma, anxiety , hopelessness and stressful relationships, can create fear, doubt and shame to take up too much space in our lives. The way to healing and restoring the body, mind and spirit can feel challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone.

Whether it's a life transition, peer/relationship struggles, depression, worsening anxiety , or suicidal thoughts, you don't deserve to face it alone.
In a time where our world is constantly changing, it can feel hard to keep up and maintain control. I am a firm believer that our mental health has a large impact on how we feel about ourselves and the world around us. Finding someone you trust to discuss how you feel is the first step in regaining control of not only your health, but your happiness, too.

The decision to start therapy takes courage. Often the idea of talking about personal thoughts and emotions can be anxiety -inducing for both children and adults. As an art therapist and licensed mental health counselor, my goal is to provide a safe and accepting outlet to explore emotions through the creative process. Combining artmaking with verbal processing can increase self-awareness, reduce stress, and encourage healthy expression. For adolescents, art therapy can provide a supportive way to navigate personal challenges, peer conflicts, and life transitions that may be difficult to process in traditional talk therapy settings.

Most people are kinder to others than they are to themselves. Having an internal critic who is constantly beating you up inside can lead to anxiety , low mood, and relationship problems. As my clients develop greater self compassion, they see amazing changes in many aspects of their lives.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
