I combine art therapy with perspectives including trauma informed care, motivational interviewing, grief counseling and acceptance and commitment therapies.
I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand and build your own story. My goal is to help you figure out the person, the parent, the partner, whoever it is you want to be, and to help you develop skills to cope with the hardships that come with being that person. Being human comes with its own set of challenges and we each face different struggles based on our experiences in the world; whether that is anxiety, depression, substance use or difficulty with body image or identity. I enjoy practicing from a creative approach, and I don’t mind stepping outside of the traditional box.

Focus: college students and professionals struggling with depression, anxiety, and/or relationship issues. I'm trained in evidence-based therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which concludes that through mindful meditation, we can defuse ourselves from our thoughts and emotions, allowing us to commit to value-congruent actions in a way that brings us life purpose. I am also passionate about working with couples, helping them navigate through their struggles at any point in their relationship or deal with sensitive issues. Lastly, I'm a sex-positive Sex Therapist who welcomes individuals to explore their sexual issues in a safe and non-judgmental setting.

The ABCs of positive mental health are Acceptance , Belonging, Connectedness, and Security.
One afternoon I told my wife that after another tour, I would be leaving the U.S. Coast Guard for a very different career. Serving my country and the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard is one of the greatest honors and privileges of my life. After serving for nine years I knew that directly assisting and serving people is the life-giving work of my heart. I became a Social Worker and therapist because it is my greatest joy and pleasure to support you as you unify all your strengths and gifts to release your Faith, Hope, and Love into society.

I utilize ACT , CBT, IFS, breath work, and mindfulness methods, and I specialize in helping teens and adults with ongoing issues that hinder their daily life.
When teens and adults feel overwhelmed, they FEEL it- mind & body. There are so many factors; high achievers, life changes, puberty, and the rapidly shifting world around us can all play a part in the exhausting feelings many people live with. These things can have a direct effect on your physical health, too! The brain and the body are connected, and they will let you KNOW when things are not in sync. This can be confusing for some people, they get stuck and don't know how to move forward.

Therapy requires hard work & vulnerability, but growth is worthwhile; all leading to moments of awareness of true acceptance of what is.
As a Latinx therapist, I feel strongly that we heal most effectively when treated as a whole person instead of a diagnosis, a trauma, or a bunch of symptoms. Having openness to unlearn unhelpful patterns that keep appearing in your life is key to acceptance . I help Hyper-Independent adults, on a healing journey; unlearn unhelpful patterns that resist their acceptance of what is. We will work towards your desired goals in exploratory ways by connecting mindfully, creating self-love by holding boundaries, & creatively connecting to your joy. My core values & strengths surround compassion & empathy, these shape my practices.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

Is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy evidence-based?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is one of many approaches within the field of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidence-based treatment framework that has been shown to be effective in treating many mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD.

What is the difference between Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Despite being part of the CBT family of therapies, ACT differs from other approaches within this field in several important ways: First, it emphasizes acceptance over change; second, it focuses on present moment experiences rather than past experiences or future events; third it focuses on what clients can do rather than what they cannot do; and fourth it emphasizes values rather than symptoms as targets for change.

What credentials will a certified Acceptance and Commitment therapist have?

A certified Acceptance and Commitment therapist in Tallahassee will have completed specialized training in this approach at a university accredited by The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT).

How long does ACT typically take?

ACT is a relatively short-term therapy that focuses on helping you accept the things you can't change and commit to the things you can. It typically takes about eight weeks of weekly sessions with a therapist to complete the entire process. You may need to see your therapist weekly or biweekly, depending on the circumstances surrounding your situation.
