I have extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings working with addiction, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, behavioral modification, anxiety, panic, OCD, PTSD, LGBTQIA+ issues, depression,
women's issues
, and couples and family counseling.
My primary goal is to provide you with relief and improvement in functioning and well-being. I will work closely with you while we help to move you to a more positive and functional situation. We will work together collaboratively to relieve your distress and establish a strong and mutually trusting therapeutic relationship. Stress, anxiety, depression, self esteem and confidence, grief, problem solving, men's and
women's issues
, sexual concerns, financial conflicts, etc.
I work with individuals and couples for both in-office and online sessions. “The beauty of life is; while we cannot undo what is done; we can see it, understand it, learn from it and change" (J. Edwards). Life presents us with circumstances challenging our relationships and ourselves. Therapy can be a catalyst toward discovery of creative and viable solutions, or in the personal work toward acceptance. Through conflicts, opportunities are created. I work with individuals and couples to discover opportunity and weave growth and maturity into decision-making.

I enjoy working with young adults and people who are in transitional times in their lives. Going from supported environments like college or university into the working world is sometimes an overwhelming shift for young people. I think that moving to a new city or starting a new job can lead to feelings of loneliness, depression and anxiety. There are many life changes for people in their 20's and 30's. Maybe the career you thought you wanted is not fulfilling or the relationship you invested time and energy in is not going in the direction you hoped.

Taking the initiative to begin therapy is not always easy, but my experiences with my clients have demonstrated that the process of healing is a truly humbling and powerful experience. I value the process of building a therapeutic alliance and relationship with my clients, as it is the basic foundation for our work. I use an interdisciplinary approach to help you build on your individual and unique strengths, and will then implement theoretical approaches that best fit your needs.

At the core of healing and growth is a solid and caring relationship with oneself and others. I aim to foster this while addressing your specific needs. I honor each individual I meet with and take a uniquely tailored and collaborative approach to therapy. Pursuing your goals with creativity, compassion and humor can help make the "work" of therapy flow more naturally and comfortably. I can help you gain insight in addressing various aspects of your individualized healing process holistically, which may include expressive art therapy, nature therapy, relational-cultural therapy as well as more traditional approaches.

Are you or a loved one struggling with stress, anxiety or depression? Are your coping skills helping or hurting you? In life, we all experience times when we struggle whether it be with guilt, shame, grief/loss, relationship issues or adjustment to change. With a little help, we can move through this and get to a brighter life. In the 20 years I have been a therapist I have helped many people with these issues. One of my favorite quotes is “If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got. If you want something different, do something different.” Counseling is the process that can help with this.

Trauma can influence us is so many ways: our emotional functioning, in our relationships, in our body, even the thoughts we have about ourselves. If you have been struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or just dealing with life events that left an imprint, I'd love to help you move past these and define yourself on your own terms. Healing from a traumatic experience is an unlearning process. We are born equipped to deal with life's injuries and the resulting emotional wounds. As we grow, the world teaches us all kinds of lessons that are counter-intuitive to our adaptive nature. You can shed what no longer serves you.

Hi there! Have you been feeling overwhelmed lately? Has life piled on stressors due to overwhelming changes around you? Are you struggling to function daily and the past keeps replaying over and over? Making the first step to start therapy can be very hard. It takes a great deal of strength, vulnerability and courage to take the first step. My first priority is providing a private and compassionate environment where you feel at ease opening up. I integrate mind and body awareness in my sessions and provide insight and awareness. Mental health counseling is the best investment you will make for your self and for your relationships.

Are you feeling stressed, anxious, depressed or stuck? Let me help you identify and make changes that will move you toward emotional health. As a licensed therapist and psychiatric physician assistant, I am uniquely qualified to provide psychotherapy and prescribe medications that help you restore mental wellness. Psychotherapy creates a confidential and safe space to reflect on our lives, learn more about ourselves, identify obstacles, adopt new strategies and make changes. For some, the addition of psychiatric medication further helps to rebalance and optimize brain functioning.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
