My treatment approach includes cognitive behavioral therapy,(CBT), dialectical behavior therapy, (DBT), cognitive mindfulness therapy, and (CMBT).
One of my favorite quotes from Brene Brown is "Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen". Today, more than ever, we are seeing a staggering amount of anxiety, depression and trauma in our society. It is so important for people of any age to learn skills and build resilience to cope with these challenges.Therapy provides that space for clients to work on this and to master the skills and to be empowered. I proved a warm and gentle environment for my clients to do so.

I primarily use mindfulness-based therapies derived from CBT, guided mindfulness meditation for stress reduction, insight, and emotional healing.
Living life on life’s terms is challenging. My purpose is to guide, as you change old patterns of limiting thoughts and behaviors, and increase your capacity to live more fully. Your decision to pursue change is a strength. You will develop your internal resources, gain insight, and learn new ways to respond that allow for change and growth. When you become aware of your immediate experience and create space to observe it clearly, you can choose how you respond. In that moment, you can ask yourself: ‘how do I want to act?’ and ‘how do I want to live?’ The shift from reacting to responding is empowering and transformative.

I work with teens and adults who want to: decrease feelings of anxiety/depression, improve coping skills, process loss, enhance self-esteem, feel empowered, work towards self-acceptance, feel more connected, navigate life transitions with more peace, or increase mindfulness.
Life can be hard, and it’s easy to feel disconnected, lost, overwhelmed, or off-balance as we navigate the challenges of being human. During those times, we need a safe space where we feel seen and heard, where we are encouraged to experience our emotions, where we can be ourselves. Ted Lasso reminded us to “be curious, not judgmental”. For me, that is what therapy is all about. Being present and listening, without judgment. Therapy isn’t necessarily about “fixing” something that’s “broken”. Sometimes, the work is more about awareness, insight, self-exploration, or acceptance. We get curious, we ask questions, we explore. Together.

As a therapist, I specialize in supporting adults and couples experiencing life transitions, self-esteem, and couples issues to help you find your voice again using mindfulness therapy and other evidence-based approaches.
Do you find yourself feeling like you are never enough and unworthy no matter what you do? Are you having difficulty saying “no” to others and pretending to be okay when you're not? Or perhaps you feel guilty or shameful when there is no reason to be? Past trauma can leave us feeling shameful, broken, unloved, and disconnected from our authentic selves. You feel you have to be perfect all the time with your relationships, work, and appearance. You want to appear like your life is great, but deep down, you are struggling to make it through the day most of the time, lacking motivation, confidence, and trust in yourself.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
