Shame, screaming children, breastfeeding Issues, birth trauma, emptiness, rejection were all a part of my story. I know what it is like to feel isolated in the transition to motherhood and the fragility and strength of the maternal mind. It can be an empowering, connected and hopeful time of your life and yet it seems so vague. I am passionate about helping women find their inner strength and establish their new identity as they move throughout motherhood.

You're tired of fighting with food, and with yourself. You just want to feel good about yourself, but you can't seem to shake the feeling of not being good enough, or that you can't get it right. Many of our society’s pressures are limiting and unrealistic, leading so many women to feel like they've failed, or that they are unworthy or undeserving of what they really want. I specialize in working with women just like you. Craving more out of life, and ready to do something about it but not sure how.

It takes a great deal of courage to reach out for help and start the personal journey towards healing. You may be going through a difficult time and feel as if grace is not present in your life. You may feel lost and in need of some guidance and understanding as you ask yourself: When will life feel familiar again? Why is it so hard to make decisions? How can I be my best self? When will this sadness go away? Why is it so hard for me to sleep or keep a healthy lifestyle? Will these feelings of nervousness and worry ever go away?

Women are incredible, and yet, I don’t know a single woman who hasn’t held deep pain and shame about herself at some point; somehow feeling like she is both too much and not enough. Shrinking herself, fighting imposter syndrome, avoiding conflict, feeling guilty for having needs and choosing to care for herself... Maybe you know that feeling too, and maybe that’s why you’re here. It doesn’t have to be this way. You can learn how to move from self-criticism to compassion, rebuild your confidence, and let go of the insecurities that make it so hard for you to see your worth. You can learn how to love yourself and your life again.

The 'ideal client' for counseling is someone who is sick & tired of being sick & tired. They are ready for change & peace of mind and ready to see their part in problems. Through counseling and consultation, they can acquire skills to think, feel and behave differently in situations and relationships for better outcomes. Self respect, self worth and esteem get better. Clients notice they feel lighter. There is an overall increased sense of well being. They are increasingly able to do the next right thing while avoiding falling down the rabbit hole of old patterns which initially brought them into counseling.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
