I have supported clients experiencing depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and substance use problems, utilizing a combination of a client-centered approach, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy, to name a few.
Despite everyday difficulties such as feeling alone, family and school conflict, grief, stress, anxiety, or depression, children and adolescents deserve to live a life filled with meaning, purpose, and happiness. Together, through a client-centered approach, we will work to identify what issues they want to work on and bring about a positive life change.

You are feeling trapped. Stuck in a seemingly endless loop of unwanted thoughts, fears, or painful memories. You feel like the only way to get relief is to avoid what hurts or do something…anything to quiet the thoughts. Your symptoms have made your life smaller and smaller until you don't even recognize who you are or who you were meant to be. You only see your symptoms. OCD, anxiety, depression, substance use , and/or trauma make you feel like you are on an island alone.

Your life has not turned out how you had hoped or planned. You are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, substance use , or loss. You find yourself trying to solve this discomfort by repeating behaviors that provide temporary relief, but ultimately lead you further away from the kind of life you want, and the kind of person you want to be. Instead of stuck, exhausted, desperate, and dissatisfied, you'd like to move through your life with confidence, compassion, clarity, trust, creativity, curiosity, and centeredness. You'd like to finally resolve the hurt or pain you have been carrying inside you.

I work with individuals who have experienced all forms of trauma, struggle with anxiety, substance use disorders, and PTSD.
I am currently offering teletherapy. I work with individuals, couples, and families to help identify goals, create a plan, and help access the client's own strengths to find solutions. If your relationship is in pain, you and all family members may feel the impact. Whether you wish to learn how to increase a positive connection or repair a serious tear in that relationship, I will create a safe environment for you to resolve your differences, look at underlying causes of difficulties, and learn healthier and less reactive ways of relating to one another.

Are you struggling with relationships? Are you experiencing the many ways substance use can create pain, whether for you or someone you love? Are you living with a mental health condition that requires support? Identifying limiting beliefs and unhelpful behaviors is an essential step to living an emotionally stable life, whatever difficult crossroads you may be experiencing. Often, emotional recovery begins with healing long-buried childhood trauma. My goal in therapy with you is to be your guide on this healing journey. You don't have to do it alone. And I believe relief can sometimes happen as early as the first session.

I have over 25 yrs experience working with individuals facing mental health and substance use concerns. I strive to provide an open safe space with no judgement to discuss thoughts, feelings and behaviors with the intention of creating opportunities for change. These changes may be practiced and adjusted as needed to find a solution that fits the unique person that is you. If one is trying to make a change and has a slip aka "blip in the radar of life". We do not start all over, we look at what was learned with curiosity and start again where we are in the process. This is a shame and blame free zone. We are all works in progress.

For almost 10 years I have worked with teens and young adults experiencing depression, anxiety, loss/grief, identity exploration, and substance use .
Has your teen been struggling lately? Does it feel like you don't recognize who your teen is becoming? Or are you a young adult stressed out about what you're "supposed" to be doing, and what's next? Maybe it's that you just need someone to help you take that deep breath and sort out all of it. Whether it is from recent events, or those in the past that have impacted you, you do not have to be alone in this journey. If you are noticing more bad days than good, or that those bad days are becoming really bad, I want to help you navigate through these moments.

Starting therapy is a life changing experience that requires a safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic approach to begin the healing process. I've worked with many adolescents and adults to address various mental health and substance use issues. I view "issues" and "problems" as external from the individual and the problem at hand is comprised of many different factors that require different types of interventions. Therefore, my approach is to motivate my clients to start addressing each factor based on their own needs and goals.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
