I invite you to bring your own interests into the therapeutic process – art, poetry, music, spirituality , nature, etc.
You’re caught in a cycle of 'shoulds': I should be happy. I should be grateful. I should be stronger. I should get over it. You worry that you’re a hopeless cause. Maybe you’re on the verge of giving up: Am I destined to live this way forever? Is healing even possible? Living with disordered eating, trauma, addiction, and loss is painful. Diet culture and body hate gaslight us into believing that we are not worthy. As a result, we shut ourselves off from relationships and experiences. We seek ways to numb the pain. In the end, we wind up denying ourselves the pleasure of living fully.

My main specialty area is Jungian therapy, as it intersects with spirituality and myth. Before conducting therapy, my first profession was teaching. I taught at the University of South Florida, and Jungian psychology was integrated in with my teaching of Comparative Religion. This was also a focal point for me in grad school. I have studied and researched it on a personal level since the 90's, so for 25-30 yrs. In life, we follow certain rituals and/or myths. Sometimes those prescriptions need to be revised to find wholeness; other times, we need to rewrite the script & create new ones. I'd be honored to support you on your journey.

As a child (and now), I was gifted with sensitivity, empathy, and the ability to make others feel comfortable and understood. This innate propensity inspired curiosity in humans, suffering, and the mind/heart from a young age. However, it wasn’t until my descent into depression at the age of 20 that I decided being a therapist was my calling. Through my own therapeutic work and journey into darkness, I solidified my desire to become a therapist and bring the same healing I found to others while integrating my continued journey of seeking wisdom and spirituality .

Cancer, amputation, spirituality , surrender to one's humanity.
The 'ideal client' for counseling is someone who is sick & tired of being sick & tired. They are ready for change & peace of mind and ready to see their part in problems. Through counseling and consultation, they can acquire skills to think, feel and behave differently in situations and relationships for better outcomes. Self respect, self worth and esteem get better. Clients notice they feel lighter. There is an overall increased sense of well being. They are increasingly able to do the next right thing while avoiding falling down the rabbit hole of old patterns which initially brought them into counseling.

Therapies, homework, spirituality , nutrition, and exercise combine to facilitate this growth.
There are times in our lives when we find ourselves "stuck" and/or feeling like we are wading through quicksand to move forward. Our situations appear hopeless and sometimes overwhelming. They can be due to difficulties beyond our control, unresolved issues from our past that have resurfaced, or the consequence of wrong choices. We seek alternative methods for looking at ourselves, managing our situations, as well as the outside influences in our lives, but we don't know how to access them. We need someone to help us discover who we have become and how to move forward in a healthy manner mentally, spiritually, and physically.

Finally, my passion is to use a holistic approach to help these individuals address issues related to relationships, sexuality, self esteem, spirituality , & self love/care.
Are you a business leader, pastor, or woman of color currently navigating a difficult time in your life? Do you have it hard to manage change in the work environment? As a leader are you secretly struggling with depression, stress, work-life balance and self care? Do you seek validation as a leader from unhealthy sources? Can you identify healthy relational boundaries at work and home? Are you revisiting your spiritual journey and your role as a leader in the religious community? If you have answered yes to many of these questions, consider talking to someone who will create a space for you to evolve into your authentic self.

I work with adults, college students and adolescents struggling with self-esteem, life transitions, trauma, spirituality , and recovery from mental illness, addictions and past experiences.
When we feel overwhelmed, depressed, or stagnant it can be difficult to reach out. When we feel lost in our relationships, our careers, or question our purpose in life, we may not feel satisfied or content. If we think our loved ones don't understand us, or we’re afraid to open up to them, we may become isolated and lonely. If we catch ourselves in addictive cycles or patterns, we feel defeated because nothing we’ve tried seems to be working. Maybe we battle with anxiety and depression; unable to get out of bed. If only we could learn a different way. If this resonates with you, there is a way through.

These are extraordinarily difficult times - for you, for me, and for everyone alive today. Anxiety and depression are at all-time highs and much of what's happening on the level of the individual is manifesting from out of intense cultural chaos. Personal problems must now be worked on within the larger framework of global dysfunction. In the midst of all the turbulence and conflict, it has become essential that we find ways of feeling and generating genuine positivity, of being at home with ourselves. I will soon be moving to St Petersburg. Since I now work virtually, it will not change my availability in South Florida.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
