Some therapeutic techniques I use are EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Grief Therapy,
Mindfulness
-Based, and Somatic Therapy.
I am passionate about helping others to achieve their life goals and/or recover from illness, trauma, or grief. If you have experienced a major life event such as death/loss of a loved one, traumatic life events, or been diagnosed with a debilitating illness, this can be a very difficult journey to navigate alone. You may be leaning on others for support only to find they don't know how to help. Or perhaps you are too concerned to burden those closest to you with your emotional needs. Seeking professional therapy is an excellent way to get the specialized help you need on your path to recovery.

I specialize in integrating Yoga informed, Somatic, and
Mindfulness
practices with traditional counseling theories.
Are you struggling to let go of habits, relationships, jobs, beliefs, or hobbies that no longer serve you? Are you grieving the loss of an important person, career, or relationship? Are you caught up in a pattern or reaching for people, food, substances, or social media to change the way you feel? At the end of the day, chronically reaching for things to change feelings is nothing more than an attempt to self-regulate; which evolves into an obsession and then a compulsion. If you’re unsure what self-regulation means, how to do it, or just want some more skills to add to your tool box I’m here to help.

I’ve studied Tibetan-style meditation/
mindfulness
and bring a grounded, person-focused approach to supporting others.
I am an MSW student intern working with adolescents and adults to heal the effects of childhood trauma & other adverse childhood experiences. Being raised in abusive, chaotic, or neglectful environments can result in anxiety, depression, panic attacks, physical debilitation, self-esteem issues, relationship/codependency issues, addictions & compulsions, and critical judgment towards oneself and others. I work with a wide diversity of clients, but as a gay man experienced in working with LGBTQ+ individuals, I'm particularly interested in helping others heal from the compounding wounds of homophobia and other social oppression.

Accepting new clients! I help people overcome difficulty and use it to grow and pursue a life of meaning and purpose. Sometimes we start by treating stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, career, or LGBTQ+ and other identity issues, and over time turn to deeper issues about the life you want to create, your identity, and your values. I’m a humanistic counselor, which means I’ll never tell you what to do and I’ll always empower you to make the choice that’s best for you. I use a collaborative, gentle approach that helps you connect with your intuitive sense of self and your intrinsic motivation to grow and do difficult things.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
