I am passionate about helping others to achieve their life goals and/or recover from illness, trauma, or
grief
. If you have experienced a major life event such as
death
/
loss
of a loved one, traumatic life events, or been diagnosed with a debilitating illness, this can be a very difficult journey to navigate alone. You may be leaning on others for support only to find they don't know how to help. Or perhaps you are too concerned to burden those closest to you with your emotional needs. Seeking professional therapy is an excellent way to get the specialized help you need on your path to recovery.

All of us experience
loss
and changes sometime in our lives. We try our best to move forward but many times we get stuck and can't see how we have been impacted. That can leave us feeling hurt, alone, and scared, and may at times even lead to a mental health disorder. I think many of us during these times are looking for a guide that can see them authentically and help them heal.

Are you grieving a recent
loss
, or do you need help with marital or work conflicts? I help people to validate their feelings, while providing tools to help them resolve issues and move forward. My approach is to help resolve limiting beliefs, and to question old patterns of behavior that no longer work. I believe in using solution-focused, relatively short term therapy where possible---with the goal of empowering clients to make positive, long term changes.

Are you tired of trying to make everyone in your life happy? Do you feel resentful that you do so much but don’t get the same in return? Perhaps you have lost someone and the
grief
is overwhelming but you feel you have to "be strong" for others. You wish someone would really listen to how you are feeling. You’ve heard the word boundaries 100 times – but when you try to set them, people get upset. Can you imagine re-connecting with what you want - setting boundaries to get your needs met. Learning to listen to, and trust, your own voice rather than everyone else’s.

Are you struggling to let go of habits, relationships, jobs, beliefs, or hobbies that no longer serve you? Are you grieving the
loss
of an important person, career, or relationship? Are you caught up in a pattern or reaching for people, food, substances, or social media to change the way you feel? At the end of the day, chronically reaching for things to change feelings is nothing more than an attempt to self-regulate; which evolves into an obsession and then a compulsion. If you’re unsure what self-regulation means, how to do it, or just want some more skills to add to your tool box I’m here to help.

But when it comes to you and your needs there is hardly anything left. I provide therapy for the Givers so that they can live within their life, rather than just run through it. I have worked both in the medical field and private practice and center my practice on giving back to the Givers. There are other ways to function professionally and personally without giving up time for yourself or spreading yourself too thin.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
