My therapy style is collaborative and experiential, and is informed by a healing-oriented, emotion-focused, attachment-based psychotherapy model called AEDP psychotherapy.
Are you feeling stuck with your ruminating thoughts, frequently beating yourself up or being overwhelmed with life's demand? Have you been feeling alone and thinking no one can understand you? I am here to help you restore your capacity to heal, grow and thrive and become a person who you truly are. Therapy may sound daunting, but together we can create a space to practice emotional regulation and/or change your old patterns to live life fully.

I utilize attachment-based therapy to help you build more honest and trusting relationships, and to make decisions that align with your authentic self.
If you are feeling nervous or anxious, down or depressed, I want you to know that you are not alone. There are lots of things that can trigger anxiety and depression. Maybe there was a recent change in your life. Maybe you are starting to realize that you didn't have a perfect childhood. Maybe an old way of coping is no longer serving you. If you want to discover the root causes of what is bothering you and heal from the past; if you want to form healthier relationships and feel more secure; I am here to sit along side you, help you heal, and to guide you through this process in a way that feels safe, supportive, and comfortable.

I hold a personnel belief that the client needs to tell their story, feel safe in doing so, and form a bond of trust with their therapist. I have worked in mental health for 17 years. My background started in Criminal Justice. My first Masters degree is in this field, and continued to a Maters in Counseling. There was always one common thread, people were broken. A broken person loses trust, in both people and themselves. Building the therapeutic rapport is the beginning of trust, and the first step to healing. Mood and emotions can be deceptive, people want to give up, isolate, may be angry or dysfunctional. Take the first step.

My ideal client is anyone looking for some support in navigating life's challenges. They are eager to learn and want to make a positive impact on the world around them and they want to know how to better care for themselves emotionally and psychologically. They may feel like they are held back in some areas and may not know why or what those areas are. Clients who appreciate humor and authenticity, and who are wiling to step outside their comfort zone in order to evolve as a person. If you are interested in an equine therapy session, no previous experience is necessary.

My intention in therapy is to provide you a safe space where you may gain insight and face challenges with greater ease and confidence. I help individuals who wish to move through shame, grief/loss, low self-esteem, relational conflict, anxiety, depression, or trauma. I see the therapeutic relationship as an active process where change can occur. Through this process, I have watched others build self support, identify unhelpful patterns, and connect more fully in their relationships. I offer you a chance to practice the change you seek in a safe supported space.

My ideal client is one who is ready to be their own change agent and is often the first of their social/family group to break from the status quo. My most successful clients are ones who learn to use their own voice, set healthy boundaries, and advocate for their own needs. They understand that pouring into ourselves without shame and guilt makes us even better lovers, friends, and community members. No issue is too big or too small for this client; what matters most is their willingness to brave the unknown and their trust in me to help guide them.

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I welcome those seeking to improve their life or relationships by eliminating the negative patterns and self-limiting beliefs that cycle in their lives. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I had a successful business career working for Fortune 500 companies. During that time, I observed colleagues and friends not reaching their full potential professionally, personally and within their relationships. I thus, became interested in how people process personal information for success.

Are you the parent of a daughter that has difficulty expressing her emotions and often ‘shuts down’ when you’re trying to talk about important topics like school or relationships? As a parent, you want your daughter to be able to express herself in a healthy way. Or are you a young adult woman struggling with feelings of confusion and doubt that come with important milestones? As a young adult, you want to feel confident and secure but you’re struggling with the ‘inner critic’ in your head. Adolescence and young adulthood are confusing times in life, but you don’t have to walk through it alone.

Life events may impact our sense of order and peace and replace peace with confusion. Your commitment to regain a sense of order can be the beginning and you may be surprised to learn that it may not take as long as you think. I know that relationship issues, career challenges, job losses, and health challenges can upset our sense of order and balance. These are some of the focus areas of my counseling and coaching practice. I suggest you interview several candidates. Let your feelings of comfort, acceptance and competence guide your decision.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
