You don't want to be a burden on your friends, so you keep it all inside, but it's getting unbearable. You're the family peacekeeper and everyone relies on you, but there's part of your story you never say aloud. As a bookworm and therapist, I know the power of stories, especially the ones we didn't choose: family secrets, relationship and sexual difficulties, unhelpful alcohol use , over-shopping, struggles with faith, rejection and discrimination, people-pleasing, anxiety, and shame. You want to learn to speak up without it costing you everyone you love. I can help you find peace in your relationships and re-write your future.

Intervention Success - Absolute Adventure
JD, CAI, NCIP, CRC
I believe that intervention is one of the most effective ways to help someone suffering from alcoholism, substance abuse, eating disorders or other process addictions, such as gambling, internet, or sex addiction. I have been fortunate to have an amazing success rate and, in certain circumstances, will refund fees if the intervention is unsuccessful after a level III family meeting. Intervention is necessary in cases of addictive behaviors because the addiction cannot survive without denial and delusion of the consequences of the individual's actions and behaviors. It is a life changing, life affirming event for all concerned.

The agony of a codependent relationship, the despair of loneliness, the constant need to people-please, and the prison of addiction can leave you feeling out of control and hopeless. You are not alone. Change is possible. The pain of your past does not have to control your present experience. Life can leave us feeling disconnected and unsure of ourselves, but the biggest challenges can also create the most growth. The discomfort of feeling lost, anxious, and uncertain can open us up to the opportunity to evolve. There is hope, and I am excited to walk with you on your journey toward awareness, freedom, and fulfillment.

The 'ideal client' for counseling is someone who is sick & tired of being sick & tired. They are ready for change & peace of mind and ready to see their part in problems. Through counseling and consultation, they can acquire skills to think, feel and behave differently in situations and relationships for better outcomes. Self respect, self worth and esteem get better. Clients notice they feel lighter. There is an overall increased sense of well being. They are increasingly able to do the next right thing while avoiding falling down the rabbit hole of old patterns which initially brought them into counseling.

I find passion in helping clients overcome the stigmas associated with counseling. I particularly find passion in working with males to help them know it is okay to ask for help! Our world has the potential to create a lot of stress and havoc. Maybe you're worried about situations you're unable to control and it stops you from going to sleep at night. Could you be feeling gloomy and as a result you're not taking care of yourself physically and emotionally? Recent struggles with your sexuality? Troubles with work or in your personal life? I'm here to help with any of your mental health needs.

Some people seek counseling because they have experienced a stressful, traumatic or life changing event and speaking with a therapist can help them process the situation. Therapy can help you manage life's varied challenges and live a more fulfilled life by helping you understand what you're feeling, understanding why and understand the process in coping.

As a child (and now), I was gifted with sensitivity, empathy, and the ability to make others feel comfortable and understood. This innate propensity inspired curiosity in humans, suffering, and the mind/heart from a young age. However, it wasn’t until my descent into depression at the age of 20 that I decided being a therapist was my calling. Through my own therapeutic work and journey into darkness, I solidified my desire to become a therapist and bring the same healing I found to others while integrating my continued journey of seeking spiritualty and wisdom.

Go to my website Hopeinhomecounseling.com. I also counsel individuals on their journey of grief. I'm a Christian and use Biblical principals.

Sometimes, difficult things happen in life, leaving you feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or even isolated. You might try to cope with these situations by using strategies you used before, only to realize they don't work as well anymore. As a result, you may find your distress has started to affect other areas of your life (school, work, relationships, etc.) As a Clinical Psychologist, I have a lot of experience in providing evidence-based care to individuals, couples, and families who have found themselves in such situations. I also specialize in providing services to military/veteran populations and juvenile offenders.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
